Zusammenfassung
Die Ordnung der Kranichvögel (Gruiformes) umfasst 5 Familien mit 49 Gattungen und insgesamt 167 Arten. Einst wurden 20 Familien der Ordnung Gruiformes zugeordnet. Kürzlich erfolgte phylogenetische Analysen führten allerdings zu einer Neuaufteilung, wobei vereinzelt auch 9 Rallenarten in die monotypische Familie Sarothruridae gestellt worden sind, deren Verbreitungsgebiet sich im subsaharischen Afrika und auf Madagaskar befindet (Hackett 2008). Dieser Ansicht folgt man in der „HBW and Bird Life International Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World“ nicht, und so werden diese 9 Spezies der Gattung Sarothrura der Familie Rallidae zugeordnet (del Hoyo und Collar 2014) (Abb. 1).
