Introduction
Founded in 1995, Roger Dubuis is a watchmaker that has long been renowned for its avant-garde design, fine finishing and individualistic aesthetics. The independent brand has since broken away from its more traditional roots and embraced the hyper-technical designs we see them employ today. The entire Sympathie collection, however, is a beacon of the brand’s bold stylings that successfully emblazoned them across the horological community’s psyche in the late 90s as a watchmaker with a unique sense of style and artistry. Constructed of 18k white gold, the Sympathie ref. SY40's 40mm case is a feast for the eyes. Featuring a vertical satin grain on the mid-case with a contrasting high polish on its partially-fluted bezel, lug hoods and the stepped graduation that its bezel sits upon, the Sympathie is a finely executed timepiece with appreciable attention to detail. Aside from its case, the Sympathie’s dial also stands out as a unique piece of design. Featuring large explosive Roman numeral hour markers atop its white dial with a recessed sub-seconds dial at 6 o'clock, the Sympathie's dial communicates a sense of excessive complexity, much like its 18k gold case which is, in a way, an accurate depiction of Roger Dubuis' design philosophy.

Indicative of Roger Dubuis' unique design language and immediately recognisable aesthetic, the Sympathie collection has been favored by collectors for its considerable presence and status amongst Roger Dubuis' other designs.
