Dr. Barte is a dedicated, exceptional and kind psychiatrist who has extensive experience in working with elderly patients and those with the challenges of dementia. She has provided incredible care for my mother, making numerous home visits and assessments and communicating about options for care with a caring and concerned manner. The post by SF G. is untrue in our opinion as we are the family members who care for our mother and the libelous comments about Dr. Barte's care are false.
Many psychiatrists no longer accept insurance and do not want to help with the challenges of dementia. Dr. Barte has never asked for payment other than what insurance offers despite the low payments that Medicare provides and the challenges which dementia presents. What other psychiatrist would take their valuable time to visit an elderly patient at home during the pandemic? She has done that numerous times.
We had experience with other geriatric psychiatry care which was not helpful and introduced medications which created more issues than benefits. Dr. Barte made other recommendations which were helpful and broadened our treatment options.
Unfortunately, the review posted by SF G is a retaliatory, negative review, is out of context in time and accuracy and does not depict the truth. As we are the family members actually caring for our mother and not a competing psychiatrist visiting occasionally and at times creating agitation and disruption, this review of Dr. Barte and her incredible dedication and service is the real review.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Blakeslee B.Camarillo, CA0101Apr 16, 2024
I saw Barte for about 20 years. She is a decent doctor. But for that same 20 years her office staff got worse and worse, to the point I could not get a refill for my mental health meds for over a month. God forbid if I was really sick, and ended up shooting some place up. If you want your meds refilled ON TIME AND WITHOUT HAVING TO CALL AND LEAVE 20 VOICEMAILS, SEARCH ELESEWHERE!

I had my first appointment so far no problems. The staff was helpful filling out my forms. I didn't have to wait long only five minutes. She did not change my meds from my previous doctor and did not try to over medicate me. I went for post stroke recovery and she explained what I was dealing with.

Terrible! Gave me addictive medication for years and never told me it was addictive. No inperson consultation, even before Covid. Continued to add on more medications for conditions I didn't have. Telehealth consisted of a phone call every three months which lasted ten minutes or less. Ruined my life. Had to spend a long time in rehab to start to get my life back. Stay away!!

I have been a patient of Dr. Barte for over 5 years. She is a very knowledgable Dr. and has helped me with many resources too. I trust her care so much that I referred my Daughter, Mother, and Sister also. They agree that she is very caring and eager to help.

I was in under care of Barte for several years. She got me additic to drugs. I went out my mind. Most thought I would not make it. My wife worriedf told Barte that I would get addicted. Dr. came back said, "We're worry about that later". It took me three years to be myself again. Thanks to my care giver Senta. What gets me is Dr. Barte never asked about me. We used talk about family. I took gifts to all in the office. But at the end she failed to care of my well being. I worked for the Federal Govnment so I have very good health insuance. Medicare. Any thing Medicare would not pay PPO Blue Cross/Blue shied payed the rest. I noticed when I stopped going to to her. She stopped accepthing Medicare.

Update: Shockingly, the ABPN & CA State just told me that Dr. Barte is NOT Board-Certified for Gero-Psychiatry or even General Psychiatry, neither. I assume she FAILED her Specialty exams or never took them...ominous!
Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jun 10, 2022Previous reviewHORRIBLE I say, and read the many recent similarly HORRIBLE reviews below x years, case shut. In my case, a WAY OVER-MEDICATED & totally STONED elderly mom, not once, but now twice, as part of Dr. Barte's care and/or medicine advice and consultation. I don't think Dr. Barte appreciates anti-cholinergic med Delirium well or anti-Dopamine motor blockade well. Yep, my mom totally confused and then unable to walk or swallow! Yep, both times required acute & emergency hospitalization x days. Omg.
She doesn't return messages x days or weeks, with her Office phone receptionist deflecting all for her.
I do not think Dr. Barte is Geriatric Psychiatry Board Certified, clearly not best or recommended for the elderly. Not recommended for anyone. A disaster & time bomb ticking? - Nicole P.Grand Junction, CO051May 15, 2019
If you need help for serious depression, anxiety, grief, insomnia, etc.. This is not the Dr to waste your time and money on. I'm worse off than I was before I met Dr Barte and Dr Wright. It took all my courage to think I was worthy of help and she didn't care enough to help me. She wouldn't even prescribe the medication I've been on for 30 years that has at least kept me from killing myself. Don't go here and please don't stop looking for real help. You are worthy, you just need to find the right doctor and Dr Wright and Dr Barte are not the answer.

This Dr. does not care about her patients, at least that is our experience. If I could rate her zero stars I would. My wife's psychiatrist moved out of state, and we were referred to Dr. Barte and she claimed that the previous Dr. told her not to change my wife's medicatiobns. This sounded strange since my wife was now being treated by Dr. Barte and not her previous psychiatrist, and she refused to do her own intake on my wife and make her own determination on my wife's condition and medicatio needs...so she took the word of a prior Dr. and didn't do her own job. In addition, after 3 weeks of requesting a prior authorization on one of the medications that the insurance was requiring from her and her office staff, I made one last attempt to get this sorted out and she FINALLY handled this. Then she claimed that she never received any calls from us and said that the pharmacy never faxed a request, when in fact the pharmacy has a record of faxing her office 13 times. This medication is crucial to my wife's care and she was out of this medicine the whole time that Dr. Barte did not do her job. Very unprofessional and unethical, and she has no problem being dishonest with her patients. Last, she winds up unilaterally firing my wife as a patient claiming that my wife is dissatisfied with her services. Based o9n her reason, it is reasonable to think that if my wife was dissatisfied with her services, then my wife would make the decision to find another Dr. In her letter, Dr. Barte said that she would no longer provide medical care to my wife effectice immediately and that she would remain available for 2 weeks for emergency care only and she would refill medications for one month. In the meantime, she had already refilled on medication, yet she sent the prescription to the wrong CVS, eventhough she has been sending refills to the correct pharmacy for about 2 years that my wife was under her care. So my wife is removed from her care immediately and without my wife having another Dr. This in not only unethical, but is againsth the rules/laws put in place by the California Board of Psychiatry. Needless to say, we are putting in a complaint with the board against Dr. Barte. In a nutshell, she is unprofesional, unethical, immoral, incompetent, and dishonest.
