It's really tough to decide whether I actually like Bootleggers or not.
Ever since this bar newly opened, I kinda had suspicion that it was mostly tourist trap with its kitsch writings on the wall (cocktail bar upstairs, craft beer bar downstairs) as if we drinkers couldn't find our own way to alcohol.
But I have to admit hands down that they have nice tap list and not the usual bodega fares with easy pilsner and some yellow-ish lager. With the location just across Torvehallerne, it makes craft beer drinking even easier this way.
When they announced that they have Evil Twin's Imperial Biscotti Break on tap, I just had to visit and drag two fellow drinkers Mina K and Anders A with me. Their tap list was mostly dominated by IPA when we were there this week and only two stouts *sobs* but it was nice of them to put up the ratebeer score on the list so it would spare some beer geeks' time to look it up on their app.
Free water by the bar and a nice friendly bartender although the inside could be a bit too dark and bodega-ish to me. Whatever, if they have nice things on tap again, I would brace myself to scoot over Torvehallerne to this place again.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Mina S.Saginaw, MI1401147610Jun 27, 2016
A very nice central bar with cocktails upstairs and beer downstairs.
I came here on a Friday afternoon craving a cold beer. The stuff on tap looks great, which is good since they don't have any bottles. They offer tastes before you buy, and most come in small or large sizes. Eugene, the friendly bartender on duty that day, was sitting outside but still quick to see if we got up to go to the counter again. Another great thing is that they have a big ice water dispenser which I took full advantage of on this hot day.
Although the bar is cozy with funny light fixtures and dark wood, it was so stuffy and hot! Not only that, but the music was too loud and honestly pretty bad. We kept peeking through the door to see if any of the tables were free until one of Eugene's friends noticed and invited us to join him at a table outside. That was so nice of him and unusual of Denmark, imo. We had a great time chatting with him until we ended up getting a little more buzzed than expected and excused ourselves before we wore out our welcome.
This place has a limited but solid tap list and a really cozy vibe. I can't wait to come back and try some cocktails!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michelle E.Vesterbro, Copenhagen, Denmark142352197Apr 13, 2014First to Review
I have found one of my new favorite bars in the city. And best part of all, it's close to my work!
I commend them on their concept, and good opening. I hope they can keep up the momentum. Downstairs is the underground, gritty part which is more prohibition style, in the sense that people would hide away in dark basements. The lighting is low with exposed brick walls. Very hyggelig. The drink selection downstairs is your low tier spirits, beer, and house wine. They have my favorite mason jar lighting, and they serve the single mixes in mason jars.
You go upstairs and you have brighter lighting, nice chandeliers, and lamps, with the high end liquors, yummy cocktails, beer and wine.
The bartenders are great and know their stuff. They are also very friendly which is a plus! The clover club is great, along with the espresso martini which they make with fresh brewed espresso. It makes a difference.
Do yourself a favor and check it out. I hope this place is here to stay!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
