When driving around the Island of Oahu, I've found that I need to plan some pit stops for my passengers.
Laie Hawaii Temple Visitors' Center is a pleasant, safe, beautiful place to visit. The landscaping outside is fantastic with fountains, ponds, flowers, and lush greenery. Inside, the air-conditioning is pleasant, and the restrooms are clean!
Yes... this is the Church of the Latter Day Saints. Also known as the Mormon Church, the people are very friendly and welcoming. Sometimes they will invite you to watch a movie. I glanced over the literature in different languages and took a postcard.
Stop by if you're in the area!Helpful 35Thanks 5Love this 30Oh no 0 - Nov 12, 2023
Roamed the grounds and the visitor center. The temple looks amazing. Built in 1919, it looks like a modern building. The fountains, trees and grass are all well cared for and were in great condition.
Beautiful statue of Christ inside the visitor center. They also offered free postcards.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 19, 2024
One of the employees at the resort where I was staying told me about Laie and the Mormon influence there. I still was not expecting to see this beautiful temple while I was driving and had to make a stop. The visitor center and the grounds were beautiful. I recommend a stop even if you are not religious.

A gorgeous temple to check out if you happen to be in the northeast part of the island! The public can't access the temple itself, but can explore the grounds and enter the visitor center.
A member let us watch a short historical video in the theater and then explained the purpose of each of the rooms in the mini architecture model of the temple. There are also other sections with displays and educational information.
A large public parking lot is accessible as well as restrooms. The staff inside the visitor center were friendly and even gave us water bottles as we were leaving. Our visit lasted about an hour.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 19, 2020
My mom was a WWII nurse stationed in Hawaii for part of her service.
During her time off, she did some traveling around the island and took photos of various sites. One of them was the temple grounds on the North Shore.
We went here purposely to recreate the photo.
The staff and young women on mission trips were very friendly and liked seeing the 1945 photos. It looks much the same today....except the PALM TREES ARE MUCH TALLER!
Could these be the same palm trees??????? The black and white photo here was taken in 1945. That was 75 years ago. Some palm trees live 100 years. It is cool these might be some of the same trees.
Very fun to return to the footsteps of my mom and recreate a photo!Helpful 12Thanks 0Love this 14Oh no 0 - Jan 20, 2020
Regardless of your religious affiliation, the Hawaii Temple Visitor's Center is worth a stop on your visit to Oahu. The grounds are meticulously kept and are beautiful. There is an unmistakable calm and peace that is felt throughout the grounds.
When you arrive, you'll be greeted by two "sister" (women) missionaries that will ask you where you're from, how your trip is going, etc. Then they might ask if you're familiar with the church and it's teachings. They will likely invite you into the visitor's center to learn more about the religion. As a former member of the church myself, I have to give kudos to these young people who dedicate a couple years of their lives to proselyting and trying to get converts to the church. While I no longer share their beliefs, I have tremendous respect for what they are doing and am always kind to them.
Unless you have a "recommend" (a pass given to only worthy members of the church), you won't be able to go into the temple itself. You can go in the visitor's center, though. And, yeah. The temple grounds are amazing.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
