Following the success of “Mary Cherry Chua,” Roni Benaid, the renowned writer and director, returns with another bone-chilling narrative, “Marita.”

Set within the halls of one of the Philippines’ oldest universities, Marita’s haunting story unfolds. Once hailed as one of the university’s greatest actresses in theater productions, Marita’s world takes a sinister turn when younger, more talented actors threaten her prominence. Envy and the fear of obscurity drive Marita to a shocking climax, as she terrifies an audience by ending her life on stage.

Viva Films, under the direction of Roni Benaid, delves deeper into these true events with the film “Marita,” starring Louise Delos Reyes as Sandra, a new professor in the College of Arts, Ashtine Olviga as Cristina, and Rhen Escaño in the title role.

The chilling events unfold on screen as the university’s official theater group is revived.

Louise, playing Sandra, is assigned to handle it. She calls for auditions, and mostly freshmen and sophomore students heed the call. Socorro Hall, which has a creepy vibe, is re-opened for their use.

The actors are chosen. Workshops are ongoing. The production is set. But something sinister is trying to stop them.

Cristina, the lead actress, hears a woman’s voice whenever she rehearses her lines. Props are either getting ruined or disappearing. Freak accidents are making everyone feeling more stressed.

Sandra has heard about the ghost of Marita, but she chose to ignore it before. This time, she needs to take it seriously as Marita will do everything to get the spotlight back to her.

More than the production, lives are at stake.

The horror film also stars Ashtine Olviga, Andrea Babierra, Yumi Garcia, Ethan David, Taneo Uyam, Tess Dumpit and Sara Joe.
“Marita” is now terrorizing in cinemas nationwide.
