Book review: Dogger’s Christmas by Shirley Hughes

Dogger’s Christmas by Shirley Hughes

Dogger’s Christmas by Shirley Hughes is here. Over forty years later and Shirley Hughes has created a sequel to the popular and well loved story, Dogger.
You may recall me sharing the news on my Instagram (back in July) all about this sequel. It’s now going to be publishing this October. So exciting.

In this story preparations are underway for the festive season of Christmas. True to Shirley Hughes style, the artwork throughout evokes all those feelings of excitement, family love, tradition and an insight into a child’s life, in this case Dave. He has grown since his first appearance in Dogger and his tastes in toys is changing but he still has a special place in his heart for his dear stuffed friend, Dogger.

Amongst all the joy of celebrating, including Dave receiving some lovely new toys, something happens to Dogger, he goes missing. The memories of losing him before (referring to the first book) come flooding back…will Dave find his precious Dogger?
It’s lovely to witness Dave and his family’s festive traditions and I thought it was rather cute to see that Bella, his sister, still owns lots of teddy bears.

A beautifully created book that is a heartwarming sequel to Dogger.
