Tom Clancy's XDefiant Is Ubisoft's Latest Addition To The Tom Clancy Franchise

Ubisoft has announced the latest addition to the Tom Clancy series of games, a free-to-play online multiplayer FPS called Tom Clancy’s XDefiant. The game will offer competitive 6vs6 arena combat using a combination of firearms and faction-based abilities inspired by iconic enemy groups, including the Wolves from Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon, the Echelon from Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, and the Cleaners and Outcasts from Tom Clancy’s The Division.

“During the past 21 years, the Tom Clancy universe has become a major part of Ubisoft’s history and a reference for tactical shooters and immersive universes,” said Ubisoft San Francisco in the official press release. “Ubisoft is proud to announce the expansion of the Tom Clancy universe with a game that will let all the fans play with - and against - some of the most recognisable maverick groups from across fan-favourite franchises.”

The upcoming game will also feature fully-customizable characters and a variety of game modes set in various indoor and outdoor maps inspired by locations from the Tom Clancy universe. The game will initially launch with a handful of game modes, including Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Escort.

“XDefiant brings players an all-new experience to Tom Clancy games. Factions, and the characters – Defiants – that make them up, are all inspired by Tom Clancy games and beyond. Whether players are looking to play competitively or casually, Tom Clancy’s XDefiant is sure to bring a thrilling experience for all.”

The game will be available on PC via Ubisoft Connect, Amazon Luna, and Google Stadia, as well as on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. A release date has yet to be announced but signups are now open on the official site for the game’s first playtest which will be kicking off on August 5.
