Hasskyn, an astronomical object that was the homeworld of the Hassk species.
When they were first confronted with advanced technology, the Hassks were not prepared for its impact on morality. Consequently, many of them left Hasskyn to roam the galaxy with their littermates, making trouble in places of ill repute. One Hassk was serving as a member of the Gray Gundarks speeder bike gang when they attempted to claim the lost treasure of the Sith Lord Count Dooku on the planet Ponemah Terminal sometime after the Battle of Endor. A number of Hassk pirates including Tooms and Snarl served as members of Kragan Gorr’s pirate gang during the era of the New Republic. Varmik and his two brothers, the Hassk triplets, were know to attend the castle of the pirate Maz Kanata around thirty years after the Battle of Endor. While those thugs often attempted to create mischief in the castle’s main hall, other beings kept the peace.
Despite being sentient, the Hassks had a fierce behavior, suggestive of wild animals, and their culture was primitive. Multiple births were known to occur among them, with the siblings being referred to as littermates.
Their bodies were almost entirely covered with cream-colored fur. Their faces, however, were hairless, revealing grey or cornflower blue skin. They had sensitive ears, two large forward-facing eyes that could be orange in hue and gave them a keen night vision. Their mouths were filled with flesh-tearing fangs and had powerful jaws that could cause serious damage.
Following the rise of the Galactic Empire, the Bodach'i showed open defiance towards the regulations established by that new regime. Their planet was invaded by Imperial forces and the entire Bodach'i species was enslaved as punishment. Several Bodach'i were forced to work in the spice mines of Kerev Doi’s Lower-Sea Province.
Bodach'i, a species of sentient, pale-skinned reptiles. They had a tail and scaly skin.
The Diathim gave off an aura of kindness, and they were consistently described as benevolent by those spacers who propagated the legend of the Angels. They described themselves as a peaceful people. However, the Diathim were fascinated by spacecrafts, which often prompted them to mob any ships that found themselves in the vicinity of their homeworlds, Iego and Millius Prime. Because of their hypnotic abilities, those curious Diathim had a tendency to provoke accidents, causing the mesmerized observers to plunge their vessels into violent crash-landings. For those reasons, they were still regarded as dangerous entities.
Since the Diathim were only seen when they gathered in flocks to welcome
arriving ships, knowledge of what their habitat looked like remained
hidden to outsiders.
The Diathim evolved in the Outer Rim Territories, on the planet of Iego and the largest of its forty-two moons, Millius Prime. They shared those worlds with the Maelibi, a species of three-meter tall burrowing beings who fed on castaways. They were known in the wider galaxy as early as 25,793 BBY, more than seven centuries before the founding of the Galactic Republic. At the time, the Basic idiom “space angel” referred to a selfless, innocent person. Millennia later, during the Clone Wars, some Diathim were driven from their home on Millius Prime when a laser grid system was installed there by the Separatists to keep people from leaving. The Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker travelled to Iego with his master Obi-Wan Kenobi while on a mission to uncover a root said to contain the antidote to the Blue Shadow Virus. The two encountered one of the Diathim refugees, and the Jedi eventually managed to deactivate the laser field, thus freeing the inhabitants of Iego.
The mysterious species whom the University of Sanbra xenobiologists called “the Diathim,” otherwise known as “the Angels,” seemed to be made of blazing white light tinged with a yellow aura, which suggested they were beings of pure energy. At any rate, their intense radiance made it difficult to make out their biological details. Most accounts depicted them as slender, 2 to 3 meters or 6.6 to 9.8 feet tall feminine anthropoids with six blade-shaped wings protruding from their backs. One particular individual appeared in front of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, two Human Jedi, as a tall woman of their species with wings, milky white skin, blond hair, light blue eyes, a tiny nose and long limbs. Some other witnesses described the Angels as more androgynous, while many non-Human observers portrayed them as mysterious and fascinating variants of their own species. Whether their wings were physical or not, the Diathim could fly and glide freely. They could even fly in the vacuum of interplanetary space without the assistance of a protective suit or life support. They also had natural hypnotic abilities.
Language:
Although they had no apparent language of their own, at least some of them were capable of speaking Galactic Basic Standard.
Utapau was an arid sinkhole world in the Utapau system of the Tarabba sector in the Outer Rim Territories. Utapau was the homeworld of the Pau'ans and the Utai, more commonly referred to collectively as Utapauns. These species lived in the many giant sinkholes that dotted the planet’s scrub-covered surface.
51,000 light years from the core, Utapau orbited a single sun and was itself orbited by nine moons. It was composed of a small molten metallic core, with a rocky mantle and rocky, calcareous crust. Surface water made up only 0.9% of the planet, although most significantly, a vast subterranean ocean encircled the planet below the crust. Although extensive surface oceans once covered the planet, they leaked away to the subterranean ocean through the readily eroded crust through vast caverns that were once giant magma chambers. In turn, the erosive sea has contributed to the giant sinkholes throughout its windswept and grassy habitable areas. The resulting vast mineral deposits below the ocean are a great source of wealth for the planet.
Sinkholes on Utapau were a common geological feature that appeared in areas where the rock below the surface of the land is made from substances like salt beds, limestone, carbonate rock (which is referred to as a karst landscape) that can be dissolved by ground water flowing through them. This rock can also be weakened by acidic rain. When these rocks dissolve, large spaces develop underneath until it gets too big and the land above the gap collapses. Naturally-occurring sinkholes are also created by long periods of drought, or when caves with underground streams naturally give way.
Because of the lack of timber on the planet, Utapaun architecture was primarily constructed out of the bones of deceased animals. The bones of nearly all of the planet’s fauna were used in construction, which later developed into a unique form of architecture known as ossic architecture. The skeletons of the huge animals that roamed the lower sinkholes and ocean had huge enough bones to be used as beams; other fossil bones were mined in caves.
From before the Clone Wars, Utapau was one of the worlds restricted by a Trade Federation arms embargo on remote galactic regions. Because of this, the local defense fleet was based around downscaled warships only, many of which were designed and built on Utapau itself, including a variant of the Rendili StarDrive Dreadnaught. It was capable of offering some protection against marauding pirates, but as a battleship, it was outclassed by those put out by rich, industrialized sectors. For example, each vessel was only about one-fifth the size of a Lucrehulk-class battleship and they were all destroyed by the invading Separatist forces.
On the other hand, Utapau’s primary starfighter, the Porax-38, was a tough, long-range snubfighter, designed for Utai pilots and capable of extended interstellar patrols of up to twenty days. They saw good use when the scattered Utapau Skyforce mustered to oust the Separatists alongside Republic forces at the Battle of Utapau. In addition to mechanical vessels, the Skyforce also made use of native dactillions; giant, flying reptiles that could carry a rider into battle.
The Pau'ans fulfilled most of the governmental and administrative duties on Utapau, as the Utai did not desire such work, serving as laborers instead. Most Pau'ans served as leaders early in their lives, often managing teams of Utai laborers. This gave them experience that would be used later in their life. Pau'ans were kind leaders, and sympathetic to their subordinates. Each city on Utapau was controlled by a Master of Port Administration, a hereditary title reserved for Pau'ans. These administrators were assisted by advisory councils for making important decisions about their city, turning to the Utapauan Security Force when necessary. Each Administrator served on the Utapauan Committee and oversaw planetary governance. However, the committee rarely made crucial decisions, as the cities were able to function on their own most of the time
Despite the many differences between the Pau'ans and the Utai, the two species were able to co-exist peacefully, although inhabitants of the different Utapaun cities often had conflicts due to philosophical differences. Still, these conflicts rarely developed into bloodshed, and it was more common for the cities to ignore each other. Each city had its own culture, and competition was fierce between the groups. However, they were able to cooperate when the situation necessitated it, such as during the Confederate invasion of the planet in 19 BBY.
Pau'an society was a blend of a variety of styles and cultures, borne from the ancient merger with the Utai. Built into the sinkhole walls, Pau'an settlements such as the Pau City spaceport were divided into different areas, each a mix of architectural styles and other-worldly design. They liked art, and enjoyed studying sculptures and finding ways to incorporate different artistic styles into their architecture. Pau'ans developed an industrial society, despite their seemingly primitive and natural image, though the Utai were the ones who actually did the hard work. The Utai did not mind, however, and collectively much preferred labor to positions of leadership. They were able to power their city by wind, harnessing it through massive windmills. Over ninety-nine percent of the planet’s power came from these windmills. Most Pau'ans rode living beasts like varactyls and dactillions instead of speeders. Pau'ans, as well as Utai, were known for their love for Podracing.
Pau'ans represented 30%—or approximately 28.5 million—of Utapau’s total population of 90 million inhabitants.
Pau'an civilization began around 57,000 BBY. It was believed that settlers traveled to Utapau hoping to find a hospitable world to colonize after the destruction of their homeworld. Some created homes in the sinkholes, while others lived on the surface. Over time, the species changed genetically, becoming the Pau'ans and the Utai, two species with many differences but some similarities. Researchers from the University of Sanbra discovered evidence supporting the theory that the two species were related, although exact specifications were not certain. Eventually, a climate change, causing severe winds, forced the Pau'ans underground, into the sinkholes. The Utai welcomed the Pau'ans, and over time, the two societies merged together to live in a mutually beneficial civilization. Timon Medon was the Pau'an responsible for this, and he was held in high esteem by Pau'ans for his actions. Following the merging of the two cultures, they split into several different groups, forming sinkhole cities scattered across Utapau. Tion Medon, Port Administrator in 19 BBY, was named for Timon Medon. Pau'ans represented only about thirty percent of the population on Utapau, though as the administrators and bureaucrats of the sinkhole cities, their influence made up for their lack of numbers.
Due to trade restrictions placed on them by the Trade Federation, Pau'ans were unable to import many goods such as weapons or starships, and were forced to create their own technology. As Utapau was located in the distant Outer Rim Territories, few independent traders ventured to their planet; although many ventured there around 49 BBY after hearing rumors that the waters on the planet had miraculous healing properties. There were even claims that Utapau was the original home of the Jedi, although these reports were not new; they had originated millennia before. Though the Pau'ans did not want to draw attention to themselves for fear of meeting more powerful cultures who might try to conquer them, they eagerly welcomed visitors who wished to experience the healing for themselves. However, once the water was proven to be nothing more than ordinary water, most people forgot about Utapau, once again leaving it alone.
The Pau'an culture was disturbed during the Clone Wars by the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Though the neutral Utapauns attempted to fight back with several Rendili Star Dreadnaughts, the CIS succeeded in conquering the planet as a stronghold. Administrator Tion Medon and his aide Lampay Fay were forced to host General Grievous and his allies on Utapau, turning the planet into a Separatist safehouse. The Pau'ans hid their starfighters, Porax-38 fighters, so they would not be used by the Separatist war machine or destroyed.
With the arrival of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, many Pau'ans and Utai fought back against the droid forces, with the Utai flying their starfighters in an effort to help liberate their planet, though Utapau was subjugated once more with the formation of the Galactic Empire. The Empire used the planet’s resources with no thought to the native cultures that were affected, and Pau'an captives were shipped as slaves for several Imperial projects, including the colonization of Byss. Some Pau'ans and Utai created resistance movements, and the different cities were able to unify once more in the face of a great threat.
Following the liberation of their planet by the New Republic, they joined the new galactic government, hoping to avoid further enslavement and poor treatment at the hands of the leaders of the galaxy. Following the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Utapauan Committee elected to join the Galactic Alliance, holding democracy as vital to the preservation of the galaxy. When the Sith Lord Darth Krayt took control of the Galactic Empire, Utapau sheltered Admiral Gar Stazi of the Galactic Alliance Remnant late in the war after having providing the GA fleet shelter throughout the conflict.
Condemning the genocide wrought by the Sith on Dac, Port Administrator Telan Medon of Pau City agreed to harbor Stazi and his wounded men deep in the labyrinthine caves that pocketed the capital. Unbeknownst to the Pau'ans, Sith scientist Vul Isen had established a laboratory on the planet, conducting illegal experiments on the natives. Located within plain sight in one of Pau City’s main precincts, the lab’s function was to provide Isen a space to concoct a deadly virus that would wipe all life from Utapau indefinitely. Before Isen could unleash the deadly plague, Jedi Knight Cade Skywalker infiltrated the lab and cut Isen down, securing the toxin and saving the Pau'an race from extinction.
Pau'ans were rarely found on a world other than Utapau, owing mainly to the remoteness of their planet. However, one individual who did achieve notoriety was the Pau'an Darth Desolous, who served as a Jedi prior to his fall to the dark side, when he became a Sith. Born in approximately 3522 BBY, Desolous joined the Jedi Order before being expelled due to his violent tendencies. He turned to the dark side, returned to Utapau, and trained a number of Pau'ans in melee combat. Desolous and his army killed a number of Jedi before he was defeated and killed by the Jedi High Council at Yaga Minor. In another instance, Lar Le'Ung attained the rank of Master within the rebuilt Jedi Order by 25 ABY, only to die at the beginning of the bloody Yuuzhan Vong War.
Pau'ans that left Utapau could be found as aides to nobles and senators. Having Pau'an aides was seen as a status symbol, much like having Caamasi advisors. As the Pau'ans were skilled leaders, some were recruited by the Corporate Sector Authority to work as managers of corporations. At one point, so many Pau'ans were recruited by companies that the CSA had to intervene and force businesses to take only a limited number of Pau'ans to be managers. However, following the rise of the Empire, Pau'ans were mistreated, and the assistants who had formerly enjoyed pleasant, successful lives were mocked and used as slaves.
At least one Pau'an joined the Galactic Empire, serving as an interrogator. This particular Pau'an enjoyed torturing suspects, and would use torture to force them to divulge information. Around 0 ABY, he interrogated Princess Leia Organa, a member of the Rebel Alliance, in an effort to determine the identity of the pilot who had destroyed the Empire’s Death Star superweapon. This individual was killed by the assassin X-7 before he could force any information from Organa.
They were bald and their head was striped with furrowed gray skin. Pau'ans weighed seventy kilograms on average. Pau'ans had large, sunken black eyes in red eye sockets and jagged, fang-like teeth used for tearing into raw meat, as they were carnivores. The species had pale, wrinkled skin, due to the fact that they lived in the sinkholes of Utapau, giving them limited access to light. These traits caused some to view them as frightening. However, Pau'ans as a society were generally friendly, and were happy to welcome guests to their often overlooked world. Pau'ans had long lifespans, living up to 700 years, much longer than the Utai, the other species native to Utapau. This earned them the nickname of “Ancients”. Members of the species were able to see well in darkness. Pau'ans had five fingers and toes, but were more mobile than they appeared. They often wore elaborate clothes intended to heighten their impressive stature.
The average member of the sentient near-Human Pau'an, or Utapaun, as they were sometime called, species stood taller than a Human, at approximately 1.9 meters or 6.2 feet.
Pau'an age at the following stages:
1 - 16 Child
17 - 30 Young Adult
31 - 400 Adult
401 - 500 Middle Age
501 - 669 Old
Examples of Names: Timon Medon, Tion Medon, Lampay Fay.
Languages: Utapese was the language of the Pau'ans on the planet Utapau. Most Pau'ans spoke and were literate in both Utapese and Basic. The language once had several different dialects.
Parwan homeworld, Parwa, a world located in the Seswenna sector, in the Outer Rim Territories. It had seasons which were several centuries long, and some Parwans hibernated along with the changing seasons even if they were not on Parwa.
Derrown was a Parwan bounty hunter in operation during the Clone Wars. Participating in a contest in an arena called the Box, Derrown used a serum that allowed him to pass through ray shields; the serum was poisonous to other species. Gubacher was a mechanic in the service of the Jedi Order.
The species were tall and gangly, with arms ending in three-fingered hands. They also had four dangling tentacles on the lower half of their bodies. They had three eyes and a mushroom-like head. Parwans had a unique physiology in that their bodies were essentially ambulatory bags of gas, which made them lighter than air. The species could float on wind currents, and used their tentacles and arms to tether themselves to the ground.
The species also produced a naturally high electrical field, and crackled with the energy their bodies produced. Parwan could withstand high levels of electric power, and liquids, though this depended on the two different blood types.
Examples of Names:
Derrown,Gubacher,Obratuk Glii.
Language: The Parwan language to non-speakers, it sounded like gibberish.
The Viidaavs evolved on the planet named for them, which was located in the Bryx sector of the Mid Rim. They spread across their homeworld and founded at least one colony on the planet, which was used for mining. As part of mining operations, the Viidaav colonists set explosive charges into the planetary crust for help in the excavation of raw materials. The species also set up a shipbuilding industry on the world. Their planet lay in a region of space known as the Slice, which first came to the attention of beings from another world by 15,000 BBY. In the Jedi Civil War of 3959 to 3956 BBY, Viidaav fell within the sphere of influence of the Sith Lord Darth Revan’s Sith Empire.
At some point during the Separatist Crisis and subsequent Clone Wars, the Viidaavs sided with the Confederacy of Independent Systems rather than the Galactic Republic. In the early days of hostilities between the factions, the Viidaavs provided starships to the Confederacy while the Separatists sent armies of battle droids and helped set up a base and command center in a mining colony. During the same period, three Viidaavs served as wait staff for Separatist-sympathizer Bezz Drexx at a tower on the galactic capital of Coruscant.
During the Clone Wars, Viidaav soldiers wore uniforms that consisted of a brown baldric over the left shoulder, brown boots, a brown loincloth, and brown wraps around the forearms. Soldiers bore a colored stripe on the chin, and at least one commander wore white face paint around the eyes and the center of the forehead. Meanwhile, Viidaav civilians wore clothing standard to other members of the galactic community.
After Republic scouts found the Separatist base on Viidaav in the year 20 BBY, clone troopers attacked the world, and a battle began. The natives and their droid allies resisted, but the Republic landed most of its available forces and moved ever closer toward the Viidaav mining colony. There, Viidaav soldiers were reduced to a few hundred thousand troops concentrated around the defense of a small mining array in a bunker. With the Republic poised to take the array and the world, the Viidaavs prepared to evacuate the planet Any retreat had to rely on spacecraft of Viidaav manufacture, but too few remained for a full evacuation. Meanwhile, the Confederate leader, Count Dooku, was secretly plotting to take out large numbers of Republic clone troopers, but the plan relied on a sizable loss of Viidaav lives as well and would leave the planet’s surface uninhabitable: Dooku ordered his battle droids to surreptitiously set the mining charges in the planet’s crust to destruct, and he left the Viidaav forces to fight on to keep the Republic forces engaged until the explosives went off.
The battle droids set the charges and initiated the bunker’s defense systems to slow down attempts to disable it. The Viidaavs recognized that they had been tricked and sent a unit to diffuse the explosives. At the same time, a unit of clone troopers approached the bunker, and the two sides exchanged fire and suffered heavy casualties. Eventually, only a single member remained on both sides: the Viidaav commander and the clone commander. Both entered the mining array from different entrances. The enemies fought through the bunker’s defenses, met in the computer room, and leveled their weapons at one another; the computer steadily counted down. With three seconds remaining, the Viidaav commander fired his weapon and was shot dead. Only then did the clone realize that the green-skinned warrior had only intended to shoot the computer. At any rate, the computer was destroyed, the explosives deactivated, and the battle finished.
After the Galactic Empire splintered following the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, the Viidaavs and their homeworld came under the domain of an Imperial Remnant territory known as the Greater Maldrood, a situation that persisted at least until 8 ABY. By 137 ABY, their world was within the confines of Darth Krayt’s Galactic Empire.
Viidaavs, or Viidaav, were sentient bipeds with green or orange skin and lithe, humanoid bodies. Their feet had two large toes, and their hands had three thick fingers with nails. The average Viidaav stood about the same height as Galactic Republic clone troopers, a group who were 1.83 meters tall or 6 feet tall. The Viidaav head was covered in thick, square-like projections. They had large, red eyes under an expressive brow, and white teeth behind thick, green lips. Their prominent cheekbones framed small, round ears on the sides of the head. Members of the species had no visible nose.
The Kage, a near-human sentient species native to the planet Quarzite. A spirited and dedicated people, they formed the Kage Warriors to fight the tyrannical Belugans, the other sentient species who inhabited their homeworld.
During the Clone Wars, the Kage warriors fought against the Belugans under Lord Otua Blank and Major Rigosso. When the Belugans kidnapped Krismo Sodi’s sister, Pluma, Krismo led his warriors against Rigosso’s soldiers and the Krayt’s Claw’s bounty hunters. Krismo and his fellow warrior rode Milodons and boarded the subtram.
The warriors were able to defeat Rigosso’s soldiers and all the bounty hunters except Boba Fett and Asajj Ventress. Ventress was able to subdue Krismo, but double-crossed Fett. After giving Lord Blank his “bride,” Ventress gave Krismo his sister after he paid her. Two brothers, Coburn and Rackham Sear joined the Confederacy of Independent Systems as officers in the Separatist military. Rackham Sear attempted to carry out a plan to bomb the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Sear failed in his attempt due to the intervention of Jedi Master Depa Billaba and Initiate Caleb Dume. Coburn Sear fought Billaba and Padawan Dume at Kardoa and at the Third Battle of Mygeeto. He was killed by Dume.
During the Imperial Era, a family of Kage, Ru, Halia, and their son Sadori Vushan, were members of the rebel group known as the Dreamers.
Although they resembled humans, their striking eyes and pale skin set them apart.
Patitite Pattuna was a planet close to the world Balnab that was home to the diminutive Patitite species.
The planet itself, similar to Felucia and Raydonia, was completely overgrown with fauna and flora. Outside the atmosphere, it was purple in color.
During the Clone Wars, The Patitites were ruled by the dictator Hay-Zu. Hay-Zu was accidentally killed by the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 when the latter stepped on him. The Patitites then asked C-3PO to be their new leader. He refused and instead helped them establish their democracy and elect their new leader. As the droids left, fighting broke out amongst them pertaining to who would be the leader (as a result of C-3PO’s ‘help’).
The Patitites were created as a reference to the Brownies, a similarly-sized species from Lucasfilm Ltd.’s 1988 sword and sorcery film Willow. The Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni counts himself a large fan of the film, and he also saw to it that the voices of the Patitite characters were reminiscent of those of the Brownies. However, in an effort to somewhat distinguish them from their source material, he gave the Patitites radically different colorations than the Human-looking Brownies. Patitites come in blue, pink, purple, gray, yellow and green. They have stripes on their bodies in lighter colors.
Examples of Names: Jimba, Tagoo, Hay-Zu.
Language: Patitite speak Galactic Basic Standard, because of their size their voices sound very high pitched.
Geonosis, referred to as Geonosia by some natives, and known as Genosha, was the desert home planet of the Geonosians.
A caste-based species separated by positions of drones and warriors, Geonosians were born into hives with each led by a queen. The queen laid eggs for the hive, and provided orders to the public leaders of Geonosis. One such queen, Karina the Great, was even able to control sentient beings, including her own kind, via the use of brain worms. It was believed by some that “Karina the Great” was the name assigned to every reigning queen, instead of being the name of one specific individual, but one queen only called herself “Karina” because of her own insanity. No matter the case, Geonosian queens resided underground in the catacombs of Geonosis. From here, they commanded an army’s worth of Geonosian drones. Queens took no more than two years to grow from a small egg to a considerable size.
Drones were capable of becoming warriors if they proved themselves worthy by successfully defeating other drones in an arena. Geonosians of the warrior caste were known as Geonosian warriors. They had wings and a thick exoskeleton, and they were dedicated to warfare. Among Geonosian broods, the alpha was known as the Geonosian Brood Alpha. Geonosians also had two sets of mandibles, outer and inner, which they used to gesture. For example, clicking the outer mandibles twice meant “Work Harder,” and clicking both sets meant “Die.” Geonosians also celebrated Meckgin, a day in which they celebrated the virtues of industry. Geonosians would get drunk by eating a special fungus which reacted with their stomach fluids to create a body odor which created euphoria.
Naturally industrious and barbaric, they were also known to take upon construction projects from outside parties, as was the case when Baktoid Armor Workshop approached them to design factories for the Trade Federation. Productivity was key to Geonosian society, and if not kept in check with enough tasks, hives could devolve into civil war and result in the deaths of thousands of Geonosians.
Long ago, the Geonosians inhabited Geonosis’ surface. However they were driven underground by a series of mass extinctions caused by meteorites and radiation storms. the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
The Separatists used the Geonosians to help create the Separatist Droid Army after the Separatist Head of State, Count Dooku, personally arrived to negotiate the agreement.
This eventually led to a large battle between the Galactic Republic and the Separatists on Geonosis, marking the official outbreak of the Clone Wars. The Geonosians were the ones responsible for creating the plans for the Death Star. Later in the Clone Wars, Geonosis was the site of another major battle, which saw Poggle the Lesser captured and the Geonosis primary droid foundry destroyed. Sometime after this second battle, the Republic’s Strategic Advisory Cell began to build the battle station that would one day be known as the Death Star, with Lieutenant Commander Orson Callan Krennic enlisting Poggle the Lesser to make the Geonosians serve as the Republic’s workforce. Poggle appeared to agree, but, sometime after he returned to Geonosis, he arranged a Geonosian riot and escaped the Republic flotilla to return to the Confederacy.
Following the Clone Wars, the Geonosians were forced by the Galactic Empire to assist in the construction of the Death Star. Though a new archduke was appointed to lead the Stalgasin hive, the Geonosians became a servant species to the Empire and were forbidden from freely breeding. When the Geonosians were unable to work out how to refine the superweapon’s superlaser, the Empire brought in Galen Walton Erso to finish the job.
After the Death Star’s hyperdrive was operational, Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin ordered the Imperial Weapons division to sterilize Geonosis using Imperial gas canisters, destroying all but one of the planet’s population of approximately 100 billion—the largest genocide ever committed by the Empire to keep the weapon a secret.
In 2 BBY, Saw Gerrera, the Spectres, and Captain Rex uncovered evidence that the Empire had perpetrated genocide against the Geonosian species. They also helped Klik-Klak, the sole survivor of the sterilization, escape with the last Geonosian queen egg into the depths of Geonosis. The rebels informed Senator Bail Organa and Commander Jun Sato who believed that news of the Empire’s atrocities on Geonosis would sway more worlds to the rebellion.
Unfortunately for Klik-Klak, his plan didn’t last. Although the egg did eventually hatch into a queen who called herself Karina, the last known Geonosian Queen was rendered sterile. Karina used the vast technological resources of Geonosis to attach herself to a portable droid factory. From this, she generated specially modified B1-series battle droids, which were made to resemble her people. Although they were artificial mockeries of the Geonosians, Karina considered them to be her children.
Karina ultimately lost this womb and many of her children when Darth Vader, accompanied by Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra, assassin droid 0-0-0, and BT-1 assassin droid BT-1, arrived and stole it from her in order to build his own droid army shortly after the destruction of the first Death Star. Even so, Karina survived the encounter and proclaimed that this set back would not be the end of her empire. Another Geonosian, a hunter named Pehk, was alive in the galaxy but killed during the hunt on X3-299-11.
Geonosians come in two varieties: Aristocrats (Leaders) and Warriors (Drones). Both varieties are physically strong and covered with bony ridges that protect arms, legs, and vital organs. They walk on two legs, and most Geonosians have rapidly fluttering wings sprouting from their bony shoulder blades. They stand 1.6 to 1.8 meters or 5.2 feet to 5.9 feet tall and weighs 40 kilograms or 88 pounds.
By Bluss was a Leyakian male senator of the Separatist Parliament. He approved of Senator Mina Bonteri’s opinions and voted aye for opening peace negotiations with the Galactic Republic.
This species only known specimen was brown skinned and golden eyed. They have three fingers and two tubes that seem to be some kind of ears.
6. The Ice Age franchise, similar to the Shrek and Madagascar franchises, seems to be way more popular and liked in Poland than in the USA. While the general sentiment in the US is that the first one is somewhat of an underrated classic and the best and every single one got only worse and worse. Meanwhile, in Poland, its sequels are held in much higher regard. Yet again, it’s thanks to the funnier dialogue and much better voice actors. Sid became an iconic character just like Donkey from Shrek or King Julian from Madagascar, most likely thanks to the fantastic work of Cezary Pazura, an actor and voice actor who makes everything he’s in so much better. Piotr Fronczewski as Diego is also great with his warm fatherly voice he sounds way more sincere. If Diego had the same voice in the English version he would have even more simps fans. Wojciech Malajkat is great as Manfred. He would later voice Puss in Boots from Shrek. As the franchise went on not only the quality of writing went downhill but also they started casting celebrities instead of the real VAs or even regular actors. Queen Latifah, Drake who was in like 5 minutes of a movie.
7. Winx Club is way better in Polish, in my opinion. I don’t know if it’s because their VAs aren’t actual teenagers who don’t have as much experience, or if they’re adults trying to sound like teens and failing miserably, or if their voices are just that annoying. Whatever the case might be the Polish actors strike a great balance between sounding mature but youthful at the same time. Like teens that are on their way to becoming adults but still with some childish tendencies. Not a twelve-year-old trying to sound grown-up or a 40-something-year -old trying way too hard to be cool and hip with the kids. And Polish versions of the songs are amazing.
8. Totally Spies makes their heroins sound way more mature just like Winx Club. To not repeat myself let me tell you about something different, the dialogue changes. It’s not censorship or completely changing the meaning of the dialogue but the vocabulary. In the show, they are very much Valley girls. In the Polish version, they still use slang that was (and still is) used in Poland at the time but they also were capable of using big words. Maybe English slang is more annoying, at least to me.
9. W.I.T.C.H. BLAH BLAH better and more mature voices BLAH BLAH better and funnier dialogue BLAH BLAH. What is worth mentioning are the voices of the male characters. Caleb’s English VA doesn’t fit him whatsoever. I know Greg Cipes sounds like that even as an adult but still. If Caleb looked like his comic version he would be fine but not when he looks like he is 18 or older. Imagine my shock after growing up with the Polish deep manly voices only to watch the English version and hear boys who haven’t finished going through puberty yet. I’ve heard that the Polish language is sometimes referred to as snake language because of the ć, ś, ź, ż, sz, cz, and many other sounds, so Cedric’s VA has a time to shine. English Phobos sounds more whiny than menacing.
10. Shark Tale is regarded as one of the worst animated movies ever both in terms of animation and the story. Highly exaggerated in my opinion. I mean it’s not great but it’s not Food Fight, Video Brinquedo, Animated Titanic, and many others. I think why it’s not as hated by me and many other Poles it’s thanks to its dubbing. I don’t know if you know this, but there is a Polish comedy “Kiler”. The whole plot of the movie is that the main character is mistaken for a killer. So, the Polish dubbing of Shark Tale is basically a parody of this movie. They even got Cezary Pazura (the guy playing Sid) who played the main guy in “Kiler”. Instead of gay-lisped Jack Black we have Jarosław Boberek aka King Julian. Now that’s a team-up better than the Avengers.
It was a surprisingly hard list to make, not because there are no great Polish dubbings but because there are so many good ones. Any movie or show could’ve been on the list. To make it easier I asked myself “What Polish dubbings are better than the original?” and “What dubbings had the biggest impact on me but also on my country as a whole?”.
The reason why most of the list consists of shows and movies from the early 2000s is because that’s when Poland had a little golden age. There were a bunch of great movies and shows coming out, so it was easy to strike gold. (And that’s when I was born.) Now with all the trash coming out, it’s way harder to do. The translators for “Wish” tried their best to fix those broken lyrics.
But nobody’s perfect. I’m a firm believer that there is no terrible Polish dubbing but they still can make mistakes, questionable decisions, and voices that will make you switch the channel until they stop talking.
You recently moved to the countryside. Your child was playing in the woods, and came back with a large green egg you thought was plastic, so you agreed they could keep it if no one claimed it. Your kid said it was a gift. You thought nothing of it. Then the egg hatched.
