Our take

The most expensive film made in postwar Germany at the time, this two-part remake of Fritz Lang’s silent epic is a colourful blast of swords and sorcery, muscled heroes, and tyrant kings. Bringing the best in 1960s tech to the table—that dragon!—Die Nibelungen is a marvellous carnival of kitsch.
