Especially if you are a little more concerned with the Internet, network or your own SmartHome, sooner or later you will be faced with the problem of how to find out the IP addresses of individual devices in the network.

Two simple ways to find out are described in the following article

View IP addresses with the Advanced IP Scanner program

If you have access to a Windows computer that is also logged into the network whose network participants (and their IP addresses) you want to determine, you can do this with the free “Advanced IP Scanner” software. You can find these at https://www.advanced-ip-scanner.com/ download.

After you have downloaded, installed and started the program, you should have this view in front of you. There you can now click directly on “Scan”. This will scan the IP address space in which your computer is located. If you want to scan a different address space, you can set this in the top text line.

After the scanning process is complete, all network participants will be listed in a list. Here you can see the IP address, domain name, MAC address and information about the manufacturer of every device in the network.

If you would like more information about a specific device, you can click on the arrow next to the device. You will then be shown open ports and the network services offered there.

View IP addresses with the “Fing” app

Of course, what works on the Windows computer also works on the smartphone. The “Fing” app is very useful for this. In principle, this does exactly the same as the “Advanced IP Scanner”. To do this, download and install the “Fing” app. After you start it, the network in which you are logged in will be automatically scanned.

The resulting list contains all network participants and their data such as IP address, MAC address, domain name and manufacturer information.

If you click on one of the network participants found, you will be taken to a detailed view with further functions. There you can - as with the Advanced IP Scanner - scan the services, ping the network participant (i.e. test the response time), trace the network route and send a MagicPacket to wake up this network participant from standby (if it is configured for WOL).
