CARBONDALE, Ill. — If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to go scuba diving, Southern Illinois University Carbondale is offering you a chance to try scuba in a safe, fun environment.

The Try Scuba Diving event is set for 5:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 19, at the Shea Natatorium in the SIU Student Recreation Center, 300 E. Grand Ave. SIU students, faculty, staff, rec center members and the general public are welcome to participate.

Instruction and equipment provided

The cost is just $45 per person. Participants need only bring swimsuits. Mermet Springs, in partnership with SIU Recreational Sports and Services, will provide all equipment, instruction and supervision. That includes scuba gear, air fill, pool entry and one-on-one assistance with a professional dive leader.

Everyone is welcome to participate, but the class size is limited to the first 25 people to make reservations to assure all participants receive individualized instruction.
