The unfortunate passing of Tim Klingender, a renowned Indigenous art trader, occurred in Sydney Harbour following a suspected boating accident. His 59-year-old body was discovered near Watsons Bay, Sydney, on Thursday. Michael Reid, an art gallery director, conveyed that Klingender’s death was “an unimaginable and devastating loss to his family and indeed the Australian art world.” On the day of the tragedy, he had set out on a fishing trip, during which the accident transpired.
His wife, Skye McCardle, was in Nepal at the time and was due to return to Sydney later that day. Accompanying Tim on the fateful fishing trip was tech entrepreneur Andrew Findlay, who also went missing when the tragedy occurred.
