Charo and son Shel plant a tree in honor of late husband

Charo’s husband passed away, but his spirit will live on forever.

The famed singer and her son, Shel Rasten, planted a tree in honor of her late husband, Kjell Rasten, who died by suicide at age 79.

“Hola Amigos! Today my son and I followed the tradition of many cultures around the world by planting a beautiful tree to represent when one life ends another begins,” she captioned a video on her Instagram. “I’m am so full of his love, and this has overwhelmed me with peace and love in my heart. He will always be with us and will be forever loved. Wish you were here with me my friends. I love you all!”

In the video, Charo and Shel hold glasses of red wine as Charo explains the spiritual tradition. They end the video by clinking each other’s glasses and telling Kjell he’ll never be forgotten.

A month after Kjell died, Charo thanked fans released a video thanking fans for their constant prayers and messages of support.

“It’s been a very, very hard. I want to thank you with all my heart for your help, your prayers, your support. That keeps me going,” the “Love Boat” star said in an Instagram video.

She also said she would continue her music career because her husband knew it was what made her happiest.

“I want to share with you that I will continue [to perform] for his legacy and the love that I have for entertaining that make people happy,” she said as her voice began to crack.

After it was reported that Kjell shot himself, Charo came forward and revealed that he had been suffering from a “rare and horrible skin disease” that made him very depressed.

“That, along with the many medications he needed to take, became too much for him, and he ended his suffering,” she said in a statement.
