Thermondo to buy German PV specialist Febesol
Apr 30, 2024 15:04 CESTGerman electricity trading company Next Kraftwerke GmbH will oversee power trading for most of the electricity coming from the recently-commissioned 600-MW Witznitz Energy Park in Germany that is supplying its parent Shell Plc (LON:SHEL).
The virtual power plant (VPP) operator said on Wednesday it has assumed balancing group responsibility and will manage the direct marketing of the solar farm’s output from 585 MW of the overall capacity. The company will be also responsible for curtailment, dispatch and redispatch measures.
Located south of Leipzig, the Witznitz Energy Park went online at the end of last year. The complex was installed on a former lignite mining site by developer MoveOn Energy Group and Hansainvest Real Assets. The latter, a unit of German insurer Signal Iduna, acquired the subsidy-free project in June 2022.
Last September, oil major Shell inked a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to buy the photovoltaic (PV) farm’s output.
Next Kraftwerke currently markets electricity produced by more than 6 GW of solar parks in its home country.
