Philippine Traditional Game 'Holen' (Marble) and the joy it brings during our childhood days

Our childhood days here in the Philippines was wondrous, it gives us more unforgettable experience and memories, while reminiscing those days from our past is really fun and amusing too. Although, we can never get back on those days and we can never do it again anymore, since we are now are grown ups, while the time and the technology had enormously changed too drastically, but the only thing we can do now is to look back and reminisce those happy moments in our life during our childhood days.

One of the best and the most amusing game, that I've ever played in my childhood days is the Filipino traditional game called 'Holen' can be also called as 'Jolens', it is the Tagalog version of a marble ball from the USA. Holen is a tiny ball made out of a glass or a marble material. It also has a different color and designs, so you each player can easily distinguish their own favorite or their front running holen or the what so called 'pamato'.

Playing holen is one of my most favorite past time during my childhood days and I'm so good in playing it.

The way on how to play this kind of game is easy as counting one two three. There are also a different types of how to play it. You can play it by tucking the holen from your finger, aim for all of the holens inside a circle, then flick and throw it to hit out any holen, anything that cast outside that circle can be won and taken by the succeeding player. It is like playing a bowling, but this is quite different, but the purpose of precise hitting from those targets, then hitting it as many as you can in one shot in order win is the same way.

You can also play holen by using only one holen for each player, the first player should throw and hide his holen, while it is on the ground as possible as he can, so no one can aim and hit for it, because if any players have hit it, they can obtain that holen, the man who can obtained of the holen will win the game.

It's somehow quite sad to think, how things changed and the fact that we are not young anymore, that our childhood friends and playmates are now busy in their own life, and there's no chance for you to meet each other in a half way.

How I wish I could get back to those days, even from a short moment, but I know I can't, it is now only a part of my memory.

I'm aware that we are now in a situation with so many obligations in life to fulfill, but I am still thankful that I've experienced those beautiful days and I can say that I have an awesome childhood days.
