NEW ABSTECHER BAND: GLOCKABELLE FROM NYC!
Abstecher unexpectedly and very proudly welcomes the incomparable, amazing Glockabelle from NYC!

New York City’s Annabelle Cazes’ eccentric sound stems from a combination of inspiration and circumstance. Born to Francophone parents, Cazes received an education both stateside and in France, creating the ability to sing in both French and English. After being introduced to the sound and styling of the Casio VL-Tones by a neighbor in Paris, Cazes’ began blending her classical piano techniques with modern synth-pop sounds resulting in beautiful mixture of rhythm and tone.
This new sound lead Glockabelle to a 2008 tour with Fiery Furnaces, landing her a set at Bonnaroo Music Festival. In 2010, Glockabelle composed an original piece for the Paris Cinema Festival which broadcasted in both French Cinemas and on national television. She has appeared on the Chris Gethard Show, the BJ Rubin Show, WFMU, performed at Art Basel Miami, opened for James Chance and Marnie Stern and performed with Shy Child at the Montreux Jazz Festival. She opened for Jack White’s Raconteurs while touring as a member of the Fiery Furnaces. The New York Times said of her performance on this tour, “Technique in action: The glockenspiel has a new heyday in indie-rock, following a lineage from Phil Spector through the E Street Band through U2’s first album to the Arcade Fire. But I haven’t seen one played the way the Fiery Furnaces did: not with mallets, but with thimbles on fingertips. That can make for more simultaneous notes, more busy metallic pling.”
In 2015, Glockabelle was a featured vocalist on the Go! Team album The Scene Betweenwith the song “Catch Me on the Rebound.”
Wolf BBQ EP is a collection of mostly unreleased tracks. The result is a collection of equally playful and technically complex tracks filled with surf and punk tendencies, all brought together with her intricate synths and controlled madness.

Abstecher is proud to welcome the amazing singer and guitar player Arooj Aftab from Pakistan, who lives in New York City since 2005.
A mesmerizing new voice and an inspiring antidote to the homogeneity overwhelming the music industry today, Arooj Aftab innovates off classical Sufi music for a sound that is fresh, graceful, and musically complex. Aftab layers subtle, intricate, dynamic vocals over acoustic instrumentation, skillfully re-imagining indigenous soul with signature ‘cool.’
Arooj has created a buzz both within the South Asian community and amongst a responsive and discerning public at large. The Boston Globe noted, “Aftab’s ethereal voice swirls and dives in the delicate, complicated motions of her country’s long musical heritage,” and MTV Desi reported, “Arooj filled the space with her gentle yet surprisingly forceful vocal style.”
Anoushka Shankar, daughter of legendary sitar player Ravi Shankar, said, “Arooj has the unique ability to combine her training in traditional vocals with western instrumentation in a way that is both accessible to Western audiences and still very culturally unique.” Grammy Award-winning guitar virtuoso Steve Vai commented, “A girl like this, with drive and ability and goals, she’s going to inspire a lot of people. That’s how you get evolution.”

Give To Light is the new solo project of Andrew Hoepfner from Brooklyn.
Hoepfner is best known as the guitarist of Darwin Deez, and was the frontman of the Brooklyn band Creaky Boards.
Give To Light currently consists of Hoepfner singing and playing the Omnichord, a synthesizer that is the 80s reincarnation of the autoharp. His performances are melodic, minimal, and intimate.

Ben J. Wood from London is Yo’true. That’s the name all of the best R&B artists of the 90s would have given themselves, had they grown up in Yeovil, England. None of them did.
Yo’True is all yacht rock smooth, hip hop groove, jazz chords and elaborate, prog arrangements. Hand-crafted songs, packed with familiar pop melodies and baffling tangents.

DC Schneider is a duo of young sisters, Joana and Leonie Schneider, from Munich.
They play enthusiastic, psychedelic lo-fi music and have released many, many songs on their bandcamp since early 2012. DC Schneider toured extensively with their American friends Porches, Frankie Cosmos, Give To Light and Yo’True (from London).
DC Schneider’s first physical release is a limited cassette edition on the Klienicum Schallplatten label. The Süddeutsche Zeitung call the Schneider sisters “Unbelievably good!”

Herrlich lässig schepperndes, Deutsch-Amerikanisches Lofi Paket auf großer Deutschland Tournee vom 22. Juni bis 13. Juli! Die Tourdaten:

Sparsame Akkorde auf einer akustischen Gitarre, das Fiepsen eines billigen Casio-Synthies und gespielt kindlicher Unschuldsgesang: Für dieses LoFi-Indierock-Paket haben sich Geistesverwandte aus zwei Städten zusammengetan. Die 18-jährige Frankie Cosmos und ihr Boyfriend Aaron (aka Porches) kommen aus New York, das Schwesternduo DC Schneider aus München. Ende Juni / Anfang Juli gehen sie gemeinsam auf Europatournee.
Frankie Cosmos heißt eigentlich Greta und lebt in New York. Obwohl mal gerade 19 Jahre jung, tritt sie schon seit vier Jahren als Soloperformerin auf, seit einem Jahr auch mit der Band The Emptiness. Die höchst talentierte und sehr sympathische Singer-Songwriterin zeichnet sich dabei durch kaum bremsbare Produktivität aus: Mehr als ein Dutzend Alben mit Homerecording-Folkrock hat sie bereits über Bandcamp veröffentlicht. Einige davon unter dem Namen Ingrid Superstar – was beweist, das Frankie / Greta sich der künstlerischen Geschichte ihrer Heimatstadt bewusst ist. http://frankiecosmos.tumblr.com/ Hieß doch genau so eine der Superstars aus Andy Warhols Factory der 60er. Auf diesen Alben erklingt meist sparsam instrumentierter Folk mit verschmitzt unschuldigem Gesang, der von Frankies Qualitäten als Songwriterin zeugt. „Eine Ecke dilettantisch“, klänge das zwar, stellt der Musikblog „Das Klienikum“ fest, lobt aber „die strebsame Note“ und „die Liebe, die ungelenk durch jeden einzelnen Track wackelt.“ Frankies bisher womöglich ausgereiftestes Album erschien mit „Frankie Does France“ Ende letzten Jahres beim New Yorker Label Pukekos. Wenn da z. B. in „Sunbathing Tomato“ noch eine zweite Gitarre und der Gesang ihres Freundes Aaron (= Porches) erklingt, meint man fast Kimya Dawson als Sängerin der Antifolk-Heroes Moldy Peaches zu hören. „Frankie Does France“ lässt sich übrigens komplett hier herunterladen:http://www.pukekos.org/2012/08/frankie-cosmos-emptiness.html Das Pukekos Label gehört übrigens BJ Rubin, dem ehemaligen Produzenten des „Comedy Central“-Erfolgsformats „The Jon Stewart Late Night Show“. Rubin produzierte auch Frankies erstes Video „Joe Joe (Boys are dogs)“ (über Gretas mittlerweile verstorbenen Hund Joe Joe) in dem auch Leonie von DC Schneider mitspielt. Frankies erstes richtiges Video “Joe Joe”: Wenigstens drei Alben auf Bandcamp hat Porches am Start, das Projekt von Frankies / Gretas Boyfriend Aaron Maine. „Casio magic“, lauten die ersten zwei Worte seiner leicht kryptischen Selbstbeschreibung. Entsprechend ertönt in den Werken von Porches häufig der charakteristisch billige Klang der populären japanischen Anfänger-Keyboards. Als Begleitung zu klassischem Songwriting mit Folk- und Indierockwurzeln, oder besser: als Verfremdung dieses Songwritings – ganz im Sinne des Antifolk.

Dritte im Bunde sind die beiden Schwestern Leonie und Joana Schneider aus München, gemeinsam DC Schneider. Leonie spielt Gitarre, Joana Keyboards, beide lieben sie schräge psychedelische Experimentalmusik. Initialzündung für die Schwestern waren schließlich D.I.Y.-Acts wie Hotpants Romance. „Der zur Kunstform erhobene Dilettantismus schlägt sich in schwankenden Gesangsfiguren, abtrünniger Perkussion und wankelmütigen Harmonien nieder“, begeistert sich „Das Klienikum“. „Da wird der Trash romantisch!“ http://dcschneider.bandcamp.com/ Auf der anstehenden Tournee werden alle drei Acts auch zusammen auftreten, so wie sie das erstmals vor ein paar Wochen im Vorprogramm der Darwin Beez im legendären Bowery Ballroom schonmal geübt haben. Merchandise mitbringen. Frankie Cosmos, Porches und DC Schneider verstehen sich nämlich auch als Allround-Künstler! DC Joana plays electric keyboard and does jewelry and fashion herself. They both sing. They love to paint and do art with their small girly hands.
