Continuing a legacy of finely-detailed and locally-made furniture, multigenerational company Zuster launches the Cloud collection. Featuring fine lines and considered textures, the collection – including an exclusive collaboration with Reece Bathrooms – speaks to the compelling benefits of Australian design and manufacturing.

Five generations of Dutch family history culminate in the Zuster of today, a distinguished designer of furniture and homewares that embraces contemporary Australian design. Headed by sisters Wilhelmina McCarroll and Fleur Sibbel, the company operates from five manufacturing bases in Victoria, crafting pieces with distinct character and intuitive functionality. Expressing a strong sense of origin and quality, it is unsurprising that Zuster products evoke the experience of an heirloom and, therefore, enjoy longevity within a family home. Though Zuster is naturally informed by a passion for furniture, the company is also underpinned by a zest for fashion. Mirroring the precision involved in garment making, the timber selected for Zuster products is expertly managed. Only the highest quality timber is used – cut to flow seamlessly – with grain matched to the millimetre and covered with a long-lasting finish.

Integral to the Zuster offering is its intimate connection to Australian design and craft. Local manufacturing enables the company to work efficiently and with a large degree of flexibility, navigating facets of design, construction and communication in a rapid yet unhurried manner. Zuster oversees the entirety of the supply chain, ensuring smooth operation from the sourcing of raw sustainable materials to the supply of products to the retail sector. The community-oriented DNA of the company also grants Zuster the confidence to define itself within its creative milieu, introducing new designs regularly alongside staple collections. Pieces are crafted at the hand of Zuster’s expert cabinetmakers, following the vision of Wilhelmina McCarroll.

Echoing the soft hues, organic shapes and inherent lightness of clouds, the latest Zuster collection clearly communicates its natural inspiration. The handcrafted timber furniture in the Cloud collection celebrates the complex art of creating texture, showcasing patterned layers of form and shape alongside functionality. Aesthetically, the collection began with the playful repetition of curving lines, exemplified by the Cloud Bedside Table. The range evolved to visually recognise a theme of delicate edges, rolling silhouettes and carefully balanced proportions. Cloud encapsulates bedsides, sofas, ottomans, coffee tables and the ISSY by Zuster bathroom collection, available exclusively through Reece Bathrooms.

For the bathroom collection, the process of creating Cloud actively engages the client, drawing upon their preferred size, finish, drawers and doors in order to establish pieces of bespoke refinement. Collaborating with Zuster’s experienced design team, customers can stitch together a customised order and approve a drawing before the manufacturing process begins. Then, a CNC machine is used to cut the timber during creation, ensuring a high-quality outcome.

Balancing innovative craft with evocative presentation, Cloud embodies the essence of Zuster. From design to delivery, the collection proudly articulates its local origins, showcasing the furniture brand’s abundance.
