Mount Everest

F.X. Schmid, a German puzzle company that was eventually bought out by Ravensburger. I’m fairly certain they acquired the company by 1996, making any found German-made F.X. Schmid puzzles nearly 30 years old at the minimum.

This particular puzzle said that it was made in West Germany, which again dates it back to at least before 1990. It’s my understanding that F.X. Schmid also made Puzzles in North America and was bought out a little later here in NA.

Anyway, that’s not what I’m here to chat about! I’m here to share this lovely gradiated photo of Mount Everest!

1200 pieces, I must admit that I was intimidated by this puzzle, on one hand it’s a photograph with plenty of blank open space and on the other, it’s a gradient puzzle. Thankfully this felt more like assembling a gradient, than just endless sky.

I began with the gorgeous pink mountains, getting that little bit of light, then worked my way up the purple sky, down the purple mountains, and into the blue grey misty, cloudy, base of the mountain.

I expected to be working on this for a while, but was in fact finished with this after three days. The gradient features really made this an enjoyable puzzle, not to mention the amazing piece cut, only once did I have a false fit! For 1200 pieces, I’d say that was pretty good.

This is quite possibly the most beautiful puzzle of the year, it is simple, filled with gorgeous, rich colours, and celebrates nature! I love it 🙂

There was one more treasure found inside my West German-made puzzle, and that was the original sheet catalogue. One side features the 600 piece puzzles that were available and the second side features the 1200 piecers.

I do think that this puzzle is the best out of all the options, and I did recently find that tree puzzle with the yellow wildflowers at the thrift store. I ended up leaving that one behind, which I am regretting just a little bit, right now, ha ha!

I was delighted to find this copy complete, one piece has a small bit of the image torn off, but that is the extent of the damage. Not too bad for over 30 years old, if you ask me!
