LYON, France — The United States women’s national soccer team relished in its second World cup title in a row and fourth overall Sunday following a 2-0 victory over the Netherlands.
Ohio especially has a reason to be proud of the victory — the second goal, solidifying the team’s win, came from an Ohioan.
Rose Lavelle, a 24-year-old midfielder from Cincinnati, scored the impressive goal in the 69th minute of the World Cup final.
In a match against Thailand last month, Lavelle scored two goals, contributing to the U.S. team’s 13-0 win.
Lavelle’s skill spans back years, including her time as a standout at Mount Notre Dame and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
