Rare 1920s Wrought Iron Table or Desk Clock, Stamped Kriegsmaterial on the Back

About the Item

Beautiful and well working Arts & Crafts clock, stamped 'war materials'. This German 'war time' (or interbellum) clock is another one of our recent unique finds. After WWI there was a shortage of all kinds of materials and people (including artisans) in Germany too had to do with whatever materials there were available. Whomever designed and hand-crafted this remarkable clock made sure that people in later generations would realize that this clock was created, partially, by recycling materials that were used in the Big War. The word 'kriegsmaterial' on the back is German for 'materials of war'. We can't tell what materials of what types of items were used, but it could be anything from used ammunition to sheet metal from vehicles to other hardware that was used in WWI. All wars are horrible ofcourse and maybe for that reason to we very much appreciate how an artisan has used his imagination and from leftovers of a terrible era was able to create something of beauty. Maybe it was his way of telling us that time may heal all wounds. Again great value for money.
