What Is The Difference Between Agonist And Antagonist?

An agonist is a drug that binds to the receptor and produces a similar response to the chemical in the drug and receptor.

Whereas, an antagonist is a drug that binds to the receptor and altogether stops the receptor from producing a response.

If the agonist produces an action, the antagonist objects to that action.

The agonist works when the muscles relax but the antagonist works when muscles contract.

Agonists are best known for stimulating the action, whereas an antagonist sits idle and does nothing.

An agonist drug causes a response whereas an antagonist works against the drug and stops the response.

Overall, we can conclude that an antagonist does the opposite of an agonist.
