Because you should be prepared in terms of time, especially for weather events and strikes at or around Frankfurt Airport. Instead, enjoy your time without stress by shopping duty-free or visiting your lounge or one of the many bistros, restaurants or cafes.

You have several options for checking in, including checking in online or checking in the evening before.

If you don't want to check in at the airline counter hours before departure or are in a hurry, you can also check in for the flight from the comfort of your home or mobile device using the web check-in. You will then receive your seat numbers and your boarding passes directly via the Internet, which you can print out or, if necessary, save as an e-ticket on your cell phone. On the day of departure, you simply bring your luggage to the counter of your airline or to your own drop-off point (baggage drop). Contact your flying airline well in advance of your flight to find out whether they offer online web check-in.

You can also avoid queuing at the counter on site by using the check-in machines in the terminal. Here you can find a list of all airlines, which enable Check-in at Machines. You then hand in your luggage at the Baggage Drop.

For a completely stress-free check-in, you can also use the evening check-in when flying with some providers and complete all the formalities the day before your trip. You can find out which providers offer this service and more detailed information about the respective Check-In Airlines A-Z in the overview on our Frankfurt Airport travel agency website.

Frankfurt Airport Departure Flights in Terminal 1, the older and larger main terminal, the flights of Condor and the departure flight of Lufthansa and its subsidiaries (Austrian, Brussels, Swiss Airlines, German - and Eurowings) or partner companies within the Star Alliance network (including Air Canada, Air China, SAS Scandinavian Airlines, Turkish Airlines and United Airlines). Also some of the Oneworld Alliance flights (LAN and TAM Airlines as well as Qatar Airways).
The newer Terminal 2 is mainly reserved for flights from the SkyTeam alliance and most Oneworld airlines (including American Airlines, British Airways, Japan Airlines and Malaysia Airlines) departing from Frankfurt Airport.
A third, smaller terminal, the Lufthansa First Class Terminal, serves as a passenger building for Lufthansa first class travelers and for holders of the highest Miles&More status (HON Circle Member). It is located in the immediate vicinity of Terminal 1 with departure from Frankfurt Airport.

Frankfurt's large airport is located 15 km from the city and is one of the most important airports in the world. It is connected to the national rail network of the German Federal Railways and can also be easily reached via the “A3” motorway, which is linked to the German motorway network. It is next to the Departures in Düsseldorf< /a> and Departures Munich the busiest airport in Germany in terms of flight movements.

For a flight that leaves early in the morning, many airlines allow you to check in the evening before. Relevant information should be requested from the travel agency or airline concerned. As with normal check-in, the travel document and flight ticket must be presented.

For disabled passengers requiring assistance, the airline or travel provider must be notified at least 48 hours before departure. But the entire area is ‘barrier-free’, i.e. wheelchair accessible.

In general, passengers should be at the airport 3 hours before departure and check in at the appropriate terminal. If the flight is operated by Lufthansa or a Star Alliance member, check-in is in Terminal 1, otherwise in Terminal 2.

The two terminals are connected by the shuttle bus (public area) and the Skyline elevated train (public area and transit area). It also has moving walkways that connect the terminals in the transit area.

In Terminal 1, check-in is located on level 1. 70 check-in machines, which are offered by Star Alliance partners and another 21 airlines, are available. The same option also exists on level 0 at the long-distance train station. Furthermore, travelers who take the ‘AIRail’ Use service, check in between level 0 and level 1. In Terminal 2, check-in is on level 2.

When checking in, the travel document and flight ticket are required and the luggage is handed in, whereupon you get the boarding card and then go through the passport control point. Behind it are the duty-free shops, bars and restaurants, children's corners and lounges.
