Climbing around the Sarner Ridge

The Sarner Scharte (2468 m), a porphyry block consisting of edges, slabs and pillars, rises directly above the main town in the Sarntal valley. If you look at it from the Sarntal valley, it is hard to imagine that a wide, grassy plateau stretches out behind the rugged rocks. Famous names such as Heini Holzer, Heinz Steinkötter and Hans Pescoller left their mark here towards the end of the 1960s.

Whether Holzerkante IV-, Engelskante VI, or the newly opened tours such as Lokomotive 8-, we can find a variety of tour options and any friction specialist surely gets his money's worth here.

Once you reach the summit cross, you can enjoy a 360° panorama of the entire Eastern Alps, and on the descent to Villanders or the Sarntal Valley, you can treat yourself to South Tyrolean specialities in one of the idyllic mountain huts.
