this is probably my favorite album of the entire decade. yeah that's right i just said that. the crowbar album that virtually no one talks about. the one that everybody knows as the album with "The Cemetery Angels" and that's it. Everything about this album is absolutely freaking fantastic. The lyrics, the atmosphere, the guitar tone, the performances, and most importantly, the RIFFS! OHHH THE RIFFS ON THIS ALBUM ARE SOO GOOOD!!!!! This is some of the most creative and inspired music Kirk Windstein has ever written. This is arguably one of the most important Crowbar for it was made in a time where Kirk was trying to overcome his alcohol addiction, conquer his demons, and find hope in his life. Of course, that's also what all the songs are about too. The music is hopeful and uplifting, but it's also REAL. It acknowledges that overcoming years worth of addiction is extremely challenging and that it's scary to make this big of a change in life, and that you may not win every battle. This album perfectly captures everything that Kirk was going through at this time. Of course, it's still a traditional Crowbar album in the sense that it's heavy, melodic, and depressing all at the same time. These are also some of the fastest songs Crowbar has ever written, while still having your occasional heavy slow song. This album is an absolute masterpiece. So buy it, love it, conquer your demons, and f*** this dying world.

Let me preface this by stating that I have been an avid fan of Kirk Windstein since day one. I own all the albums he has recorded with Crowbar, Down, and Kingdom Of Sorrow. Among his output with Crowbar this ranks among the best ever, IMO. It's been six years since the release of "Lifesblood For The Downtrodden" (One of my favorites along with Broken Glass, Odd Fellows Rest, and their self-titled) and Kirk is still on top of his game. "Sever The Wicked Hand" starts out with a bang and ends with a bang. Any of these songs could be hailed as standouts depending on the listener, but a few of my personal favorites include "Liquid Sky And Cold Black Earth", "Let Me Mourn", and "Cleanse Me, Heal Me". If you are a follower of Crowbar and/or a fan of Doom/Sludge Metal in general, then do yourself a favor and pick up this album.

Truthfully this is my least favorite in Crowbar's catalogue so far, which is ironic considered their next album was wonderful. A lot of the songs are unique, yet sound alike. They did a great job on the album but I didn't feel it was quite Crowbar, could be a sound diffrence. I would say if you are a fan of Crowbar get this to expand your horizons, but I would not get this one if you are new to Crowbar, because it may be somewhat of a let down. I would give this an 8 out of ten-I found their best to be between Broken Glass to Lifesblood for the Downtrodden. I believe in this album they somewhat lost their edge.

I've been listening to Crowbar since their debut back in the early 90s. I have always been a fan but their albums are a bit uneven, often with a lot of songs that, well, sound kinda the same.

With Sever the Wicked Hand, Kirk has created maybe best album of his career, the songs are varied and musically a bit more complex, while still having the classic Crowbar chug. There is simply no filler. Highly recommended to all metal fans.

I consider this to be a re-birth for Crowbar. The lyrics and album cover clearly show an overcoming an obstacle or burden. Lyrics seem to be goal driven filled with strength and will to overcome. The music has a more mature sound, but still has Crowbar's signature low tuned growl. True fans will not be disappointed. Crowbar: Still Heavier Than All XXXXL.

The new drummer aids in bringing the heavy. Was one of those discs I bought and listened to for only a real little bit, let somebody borrow it, got it back and just jammed to even harder the next time around. "The Cemetery Angels" is no doubt my favorite track on here. However, I just CANNOT get into track 7, it completely throws the feel of this album off a cliff for a moment, then pulls it right back up with heavy. Personaly, the tune could have easily been taken off the album, but still a great NEW Crowbar CD regardless.

Crowbar is just one of those bands that always delivers. Kirk's side projects, musical interests, and life always seep into his music; and he always outdoes himself. Sever The Wicked Hand is simply an awesome album. I highly recommend it.

Kirk proves that he is the master of doom laden, riff driven, slowed down, crushing metal. It doesn't seem to matter that he is surrounded by a complete new band on this one it just comes out right. The production quality is amazing (Zeus behind the mixing board). I highly recommend Sever the Wicked Hand as it may be the best Crowbar yet (they are all pretty good if you haven't checked them out before). It seems it matters not if it's Crowbar, Down, or Kingdom of Sorrow, if Kirk Windstein is involved it's gonna be good. Turn it as loud as your skull can stand and be prepared to be crushed.

5 Sterne !!!

Man,what a brilliant effort by crowbar.I have only listened to it once but absolutely loving it.
Musically the album is very different from the last album lifesblood ..
This album combines the best of earlier,as in very early crowbar in terms of the straight in your face heaviness and playing style but importantly combines the melody and agonizing downtune and slowness of odd fellows rest.
The most important factor here is Kirk's Vocal. He has always been good and unique but he has definitely found a second wing.It is more powerful and refined as the album goes through straight in the face punk inspired brutality and heavy doom.
All in all this album is a grower and it is going to be one of the best Metal releases of this year...
To Quote Kirk,"I may be old and fat,but I will give you a lesson in Slow and Heavy!!".
