"The Bunker" is rather interesting low budget horror flick which doesn't claim to be a break-through. It has a resemblance with such films as "Deathwatch", Korean "R-Point" and recent "Dead Birds". But here everything happens during WW2 to a bunch of German soldiers falling back through a Belgian forest trying to escape from advancing American troops. They come across a well-fortified bunker and seek shelter thinking they'll be safe there. But as it turnes out it'd be safer in American rangers' hands.The story-line is rather standard with the necessary set of usual scares and chilling scenes. I guess you won't find anything new for yourself here. But it's a good, solid movie, and I think you won't be disappointed if you like this kind of flicks.The only thing that annoyed me is that the characters spoke English. I know the film is British/American but people should speak their own language. They are German soldiers, they had to speak German! Producers had to take German actors and make subtitles. But maybe it's just me and you'll disagree :)Another minus (however not regarding the movie itself) is the box-cover. It's simply stupid. I bought an edition in Germany and it has a fabulous cover (just check amazon.de or watch the image I added). Why did someone decide to ruin the region 1 box?

Les films de guerre sont légion. Les films de SF aussi. Le mélange de ces deux genres n'a donné naissance qu'à quelques longs métrages seulement. "The Bunker" s'inscrit complètement dans ce cocktail.

Fin de la seconde guerre mondiale. L'Allemagne est acculée, ses troupes reculent sur tous les fronts. Dans un bunker situé au beau milieu de la forêt Allemande patrouillent un vieillard et un gamin, deux soldats de fortune chargés de défendre le Reich jusqu'à la mort. C'est alors qu'un commando de soldats, en pleine déroute, s'invite dans le bunker. Craintifs d'être pris au piège comme des rats, les officiers interrogent les deux occupants sur une éventuelle sortie dissimulée. Alors que le vieillard nie immédiatement, le gamin, lui, avoue l'existence d'un tunnel condamné qui conduirait à une porte secrète. D'abord réticents, les soldats vont finalement accepter de s'aventurer dans ces tunnels pour sauver leur peau, au mépris des légendes lugubres que le vieux soldat leur aura raconté pour tenter vainement de décourager leur curiosité.

Les doublages ne sont pas exceptionnels, hélas. On accroche malgré tout assez facilement. La mise en scène est efficace, notamment lors des flashbacks, bien glauques. Un bon film qui mélange guerre et SF. Le tout est bien réalisé.

Diese Mischung zwischen Horror- und Kriegsfilm hat einen ähnlichen Effekt wie ein Sergio-Leone-Western: Es fühlt sich verdammt echt an. Noch in keinem anderen Film - schon gar nicht in irgendwelchen pseudo-tiefgründigen Hollywood-Produktionen - konnte ich mich so sehr in die Kriegssituation des Zweiten Weltkriegs hineinversetzen. Die Soldaten sind weder heldenhafte Kampfmaschinen, noch schleimige Nazis; von der "Hart wie Kruppstahl"-Ideologie ist nicht viel zu spüren und ebensowenig von den gängigen Kriegsklischees.
In "Der Bunker" stolpern einige zu Tode erschöpfte, teils verwundete deutsche Soldaten (gespielt von Briten, also bitte nicht mit den neueren deutschen Weltkriegs-Produktionen verwechseln!) in einen Bunker an der deutsch-belgischen Grenze, der nur noch von einem alten Reservisten und einem frischrekrutierten Flak-Helfer gehalten wird. Sie werden verfolgt von Amerikanern, die ihnen in einem Hinterhalt schwere Verluste zugefügt haben und bald den Stützpunkt im Niemandsland belagern. Vom Feind sieht man allerdings erst am Schluß etwas, vorher deuten nur Gewehrfeuer und Mundharmonikaspiel (-> Spiel mir das Lied vom Tod?) aus dem nächtlichen Wald darauf hin, daß da draußen wirklich jemand ist und die Deutschen sich die Verfolger nicht nur einbilden.
Man verfällt nämlich leicht auf den Gedanken, daß sie eigentlich nur mit den Nerven am Ende sind, denn im Verlauf des Films spielen Halluzinationen und Alpträume eine große Rolle. In dem Bunker ist es angeblich nicht geheuer, wie der Reservist bei einem abendlichen Kriegsrat erzählt - aber die Soldaten tun diese Geistergeschichten zunächst ab und bemühen sich, sich auf ihre aktuellen Aufgaben zu konzentrieren. Da sie allerdings psychisch schon ziemlich angeschlagen sind, weil sie zuvor gezwungen waren, Deserteure aus den eigenen Reihen zu exekutieren (-> Alptraumsequenzen!), reagieren sie mit sich steigernder Paranoia auf jedes verdächtige Geräusch. Schließlich kommen sie zu der Vermutung, daß die Amerikaner die Tunnel, die vom Bunker aus zu einem versteckten Ausgang führen, infiltriert haben und steigen hinab in die Finsternis. In dem tatsächlich sehr unheimlichen Labyrinth von Gängen und nutzlosen Waffenkammern verlieren dann einige von ihnen endgültig den Verstand und es kommt zum Gemetzel.

"Der Bunker" arbeitet ausschließlich mit Charakterköpfen. Da aber alle Uniform tragen und die Dialoge sehr authentisch gehalten sind (d.h. die Männer sprechen sich nicht in jedem zweiten Satz mit Namen an!), kann es etwas dauern, bis man als Zuschauer Namen und Gesichter zuordnen kann. Wie der einzelne tickt, prägt sich aber relativ schnell ein. Die Figuren werden absolut gleichwertig behandelt und verkommen nie zu hohlen Typisierungen - es gibt zwar "den überzeugten Nazi", "den erfahrenen Feldwebel" usw., aber die Schauspieler sind glücklicherweise so gut, daß man die Charaktere trotzdem als eigenständige Personen wahrnehmen kann. Sie bringen außerdem die Erschöpfung und Verzweiflung wochenlang durch die Botanik gehetzter Frontsoldaten, die Angst haben müssen, daß ihre eigenen Leute sie erschießen, wenn sie Zweifel zeigen, sehr gut zum Vorschein. Die Geschichte konzentriert sich auf einen klar definierten Zeitausschnitt, versucht nicht, große Politik zu machen und geht sehr konsequent vor. Kein Detail ist zuviel; man fühlt sich wirklich in den Bunker hineinversetzt angesichts des guten Skripts, des hervorragenden Schauspiels und der ziemlich echt wirkenden Kulissen.
Davon, daß der Film eine Billigproduktion ist, sieht man nichts - das Geld, das vorhanden war, wurde offenbar an genau den richtigen Stellen investiert und nicht für irgendwelche unglaubwürdigen CGI-Monster ausgegeben. Vielen Dank, toller Film!

Also ein Meisterwerk ist der Film meiner Meinung nach nun nicht wirklich - aber so schlecht wie ihn einig machen ist er auch nicht ;-)

Für ein "Eher B Movie" finde ich Austattung und Schauspieler echt überzeugend - auch die Story hat keine Riesenlöcher.

Nachteilig muss man sagen das ich mich nicht wirklich gruseln konnte und das einige Einzelheiten manchmal verworren waren - gerade was Uniformen/Abzeichen etc. angeht.

Insgesamt als Psychodrama aber ganz nett anzusehen .

To be honest, initially I couldn't distinguish most characters from each other but I was hoping they would survive.

Obviously the main focus of the movie is its atmospheric and spooky location. It's effective, hence so is the movie although it leaves me without much material to write about.

Two short films are present on the disk, one of which is somewhat creepy while the other is imaginative so the special features are definitely worth checking out.
