HomeGoods opens Thursday in the Duff Plaza shopping area in Ames, and store officials say they’re excited to offer a place for shoppers to “go finding.”

Located at 1505 Buckeye Ave., the 24,000-square-foot location is expected to fill approximately 65 full- and part-time positions in Ames.

Merchandise departments will include furniture, rugs, lighting, decorative accessories, kitchen and dining, bedding, bath, kids’ decor and toys, pet accessories, storage, workspace, outdoor and wellness.

Company spokesperson Joanna Howarth called the stores "a playground for home creativity and with prices that are too good to pass up." HomeGoods offers merchandise with prices that are generally 20% to 60% below full-price retailers’ regular prices on comparable merchandise, she said.

She said HomeGoods’ real estate team is continuously looking for “great new market opportunities, and we are thrilled to be coming to Ames. We look forward to being an exciting new home shopping destination for the Ames community.”

In celebration of its new store location, HomeGoods will contribute to the Ames community by presenting a donation to YSS, Howarth said.

“Since 1976, YSS has remained committed to positively impacting the lives of children, youth and families, providing opportunity and hope for a brighter future,” she said. “Our donation will help support YSS's Summer Enrichment Program — a collaborative effort to prevent summer learning loss and ensure kids get a nutritious meal.”

All stores in the chain have safety rules in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Those practices include requiring face coverings, except for young children and those with health conditions that prevent them from wearing a face covering. The store also has enhanced cleaning protocols, including frequently cleaned carts. Protective shields are installed at registers, and social distancing is encouraged, Howarth said.
