Last Saturday, Bayern Munich’s men lost a Bundesliga game against Hoffenheim. This Saturday, Bayern Munich’s women have lost a Frauen Bundesliga game against Hoffenheim. The 1-0 win for the Hoff came on behalf of a Bavarian own goal.

The goal came early, after only 22 minutes. Ali Riley hit a bouncing backpass to Bayern goalkeeper Carina Schlüter. Unfortunately, Schlüter misplayed the pass, and the ball bounced over her foot and into the back of the net to put Hoffenheim up.

A few minutes later, Melanie Leupolz nearly equalized for Bayern, but her shoot was saved by the foot of the Hoffenheim goalkeeper. Just before halftime, Carolin Simon lofted a free kick toward the back post, and Martina Tufekovic barely got her fingertips to it to push it off the crossbar and keep Hoffenheim up at halftime.

The second half was nearly all Bayern.

Lina Magull sent Nicole Rolser into space with a great through-ball, but Rolser’s shot was kept out by Tufekovic’s foot again. In the 82nd minute, Tufekovic made another great save to keep out a header from Jovana Damnjanovic.

Then, in stoppage time, Tufekovic made two more brilliant saves to keep Bayern off the scoreboard. The first came when she prevented a Hoffenheim own goal by tipping a deflected cross over the crossbar and out of play. The second came in the dying moments, when she made a point-blank save on Rolser to keep the Bayern forward from grabbing the equalizer.
