This is what the Bertelsmann Foundation took as task with the talent competition NEUEN STIMMEN. About 1000 singers participate every 2 years at this unique type of competition in their home countries all over the world. The best qualify for the finale in Gütersloh.

An international renowned jury
More than 40 chosen young talents travel to the final week in Gütersloh, where they face an international Jury. The expert panel consists from intendants of great opera houses, music professors, Kammersänger of international rank and music critics.
In this jury the finalist meet rigid examiners but can get to know the most important proxies of the opera world personally and get the first contact to the big opera network.
The big finale is unusual for the young singers: The best present their arias in the final within the town hall of Gütersloh in front a big public and accompanied by a symphonic orchestra. This performance is a different challenge than the singing with piano accompaniment in the practice hall. Here it shows who not only got a marvellous voice but also stage presence and representational talent.

"The competition opens a way in national and international careers" Liz Mohn, the president of the international singing competition NEUE STIMMEN always achieves to gather much prominence of the international opera scene and movie and TV stars aside the high quality jury members in Gütersloh. Who manages to excite this stage experienced public has deserved to believe in his own opera career.

The competition NEUEN STIMMEN now already got more than 25 years of history: Liz and Reinhard Mohn started the competition together with Herbert von Karajan and August Everding. The goal, to enhance young talents and help them to international careers has been achieved as shown by the competitors of past years.
Sustained supervision and support
Even when the singers left Gütersloh, the master classes are over, the supervision of the young talents doesn`t stop, because the dynamic of the opera world is huge. The contact to most of the finalist never stops. Reason for that is also a big international partner network to the theatres and those responsible in the music industry.
