Potsdam: Gustav Kiepenheuer Verlag, 1923. Hardcover. 112 pages, [12] leaves of plates (3 in color), illustrations, boards. 9.75 x 7.25 in. First German edition, translated from the first Russian edition (1921). Paper covering the boards is toned. Rubbed and edgeworn; both front and rear boards have been dented on the lower and upper parts of the fore-edge. Boards chipped at the head and tail of the spine. Spine is worn down to the lining in many parts, but joints holding and boards firmly attached. Interior clean and cover design remains bright, printed in black, red, and orange.

In the original binding with cover design by El Lissitzky produced while he was working in Berlin as a Russian cultural ambassador. Tairoff (or Tairov) was an influential Russian director and founder of the Kamerny Theater (1914). His treatise covers acting, literature, staging, costumes, and audiences. Published the same year as Mayakovsky’s and Lissitzky’s For the Voice.
