Wien; Vienna: Aus der k. k. Hof- und Staatsdruckerei, 1917. First Printing. Hardcover. 8vo, 7.75 x 5.75 inches, good plus in original blue cloth, light wear along spine and scattered faint gray spots to rear board, contents very good. 286 pp., 2 folding tables and multiple pages with in-test color illustrations of insignia, standards and ways to identify infantries and other groups. With 9 pp. errata booklet laid in. Extremely uncommon; there are some online references to it, so we know that there are other extant copies; it doesn't appear on Worldcat but there are a few copies that appear in the KVK catalog of German, Austrian and Swiss libraries. Not only an assessment and breakdown of the military orders of the Russian army. The book begins with a description of the peoples of Russia and the following statistics: population - about 180 million. 88% of the population of European Russia belongs to the Caucasian race, and 12% to the Asiatic race. Composition of the Caucasian race: 66.79% Russians (44.30% Great Russians, 17.81% Lesser Russians and 4.68% Belarusians), then 6.31% Poles, 4.03% Jews, 1.42% Germans, 1.14 % Latvians, 1.06% Georgians, Imeretians and Mingrelians, 0.96% Lithuanians, 0.93% Armenians, 0.89% Moldovans and Romanians, 0.80% Estonians, etc. Then there is a table according to belonging to the Aryan group: Slavs, Lithuanian-Latvians, Romance peoples, Greeks, Iranian-Indians and Caucasians; Semitic group: Jews and Karaites; Finnish; Turkish-Tatar; Mongolian and East Asian (Chinese, Koreans). The attached maps give an idea of the areas of settlement of these nationalities. Then there is an interesting table of characteristics of nationalities, with data on their numbers and location. And much else. Good. Item #H35582
