The LAPP Technique

This week, the 2 Minute Tip is exploring ways to discuss different political opinions with people from the other side of the aisle. We’re following the lead of Braver Angels, an organization working to depolarize America.

In the conversations they facilitate between people with differing political beliefs, they use the LAPP Technique:

Listen to understand, not reload

Acknowledge what you heard

Pivot by assessing whether it’s OK to offer your views

Offer your perspective, rather than the position that “they’re wrong.”

Braver Angels enter these conversations from the understanding that we’re all Americans, and like any family, we have our differences.
