This summer, up to 400 teams will compete in the 'Gus Macker River West Classic' on July 29-30 on custom outdoor courts centered around the intersection of West Michigan St. and King Ave.

Cost per team, up to four players, is $140 due by July 7 through mail and July 10 online at macker.com. There are male and female divisions from ages 10-under to 40-plus.

Near West 21, a River West nonprofit focused on neighborhood cultural and economic development, will serve as the presenting sponsor. All proceeds from the event will benefit Gleaners Food Bank, Christamore House and Haughville Library.

"The Gus Macker River West Classic is true to two of Indianapolis' oldest traditions: basketball and giving back," said Indianapolis Mayor Hogsett in a news release. "Not only will this tournament serve as a few great days for the community to gather together, but the proceeds will benefit our young people and strengthen Indianapolis for years to come."

All teams will receive at least three games and are computer-matched into divisions based on age, height and experience.

There will also be a 3-point shootout and dunk contest.

Gus Macker started in 1987 and has grown to hold a total of 972 tournaments nationwide with more than 2.2 million players and 23 million spectators.
