Colonel Carroll R. "Cal" Vorgang, USMC (retired), 89, of Westerville, passed away on October 31, 2017. He was born in Jeffersonville, IN to Herman and Marie (Roll) Vorgang. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Louise Booher Vorgang (wife of 47 years; granddaughter Colleen Marie Vorgang; and sister, Martha Vorgang Tomesek.
Cal graduate from University High School in Columbus, received a BA from The Ohio State University, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and MA from Purdue University. He was a distinguished and highly decorated Marine serving our country for 29 years in the Korea and Vietnam eras. At the very center of his being he was a Marine and all of the values and standards set by the United States Marine Corps. His service took him all over the world including attending The National War College and The Naval War College. After his military career was concluded he worked selling military aircraft for Boeing Airplane Company. He loved traveling and welcomed the opportunity to interact with everyone.
Cal was a loyal Buckeye and a keen observer of historical and world events, both past and present. He was a voracious reader and lover of music of all kinds, but particularly classical music. In Marine Corps tradition, he loved to visit with family and friends over two of his favorites, ice cream and Wild Turkey. Cal was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Capital City Lodge #656 FandAM and VFW#1 in Paris France
Cal will be deeply missed by his wife Pat Cramer; sons Blair (Linda) Vorgang and Blaine (Wendy) Vorgang. Grandchildren: Michael (Cassie) Vorgang, Erin (Sean) Adams, Brittany (Robert) Gandy, Nathan Vorgang, Jordan, Colin, Devin, Brandon and Kiernan Vorgang; GreatGrandchildren; Kailey and Brady Vorgang, Avery Adams and Austin Gandy. Nephews Mike (Rita) Tomesek, Tim (Kay) Tomesek) and several grand nieces and nephews, as well as great grand nieces and nephews. In more recent years, Cal's time and attention centered on his family and traveling the world.
He certainly lived life to the fullest and lived it "his way."
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4pm Friday, November 10, 2017 at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 North High Street with full Military honors to follow. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cal's memory may be made to support a veterans charity of your choice.
