Eugene E. Racht, Jr., 80, passed away surrounded by family on October 13, 2016. He was born to Eugene and Pansye Racht in Fort Wayne, Indiana on February 9, 1936. He attended Rome City, Indiana schools before graduating from high school in Kendallville, Indiana in 1954. After excelling at basketball in high school, he went on to play briefly at Butler University and Montana State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. There he met Faye Cowan and married her in Bozeman, Montana in 1958. They returned to Indiana, where he taught and coached for 10 years before starting his career in 1970 as a Special Agent for the FBI. After his retirement in 1990, he worked as a contract investigator for the US State Dept. and a drug program agent for the NFL. He was an avid sports fan, especially following the Dallas area pro teams and his family’s many activities. He was a longtime member of the St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church. Gene is survived by his wife Faye of Dallas, three children: Julie Eddins (David) of Bozeman, Montana; Janine Mason (Mike) of Dallas; Brad (Missy) of Townsend, Montana; son-in-law, Charles Johnson of Poteet, Texas; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael; daughter, Jennifer Johnson; brother, Jerry Racht; and sister, Phyllis Leatherman. Gene was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and had many life-long friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
