Boards have light wear present to the extremities of the boards. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. Hans Mühlestein, strongly guided by a materialistic interpretation of art, angered the heirs of Hodler with his Marxist interpretation, who denied him the right to reproduce all later editions. Ferdinand Hodler (March 14, 1853 – May 19, 1918) was one of the best-known Swiss painters of the nineteenth century. His early works were portraits, landscapes, and genre paintings in a realistic style. Later, he adopted a personal form of symbolism which he called "parallelism".
