Da die Autoren den Lernenden neben der Sprache auch einen Einblick in die reiche Alltagskultur sowie wichtige Sitten und Gebrauche des Landes vermitteln mochten, werden in diesem anwenderorientierten Praxisbuch nicht nur Formen und Worter des ursprunglichen Dialekts, sondern auch die zahlreichen Einflusse der arabischen Hochsprache berucksichtigt. Dies ermoglicht eine Konversation uber Themenbereiche, fur welche im reinen Dialekt das entsprechende Vokabular fehlt. In Band 1 werden samtliche wichtigen grammatikalischen Strukturen dargestellt. Er ist sowohl fur allgemein am syrischen Dialekt Interessierte als auch fur Studierende der Arabistik und Semitistik gedacht. Vorkenntnisse des Arabischen oder anderer semitischer Sprachen sind nicht notwendig. Die leicht veranderte Neuauflage bietet erganzende Erklarungen und Vokabeln sowie einen zusatzlichen Text in Lektion X, der wichtiges Vokabular fur die Gesprache mit syrischen Fluchtlingen vermittelt.
