Who We Are

What started as teamwork within a R&D project in Sweden and Indonesia led to Eclose.

We are a consulting company and spin-off from Eawag with the mission to support entrepreneurs, doers and game changer in creating sustainable and innovative solutions by leveraging the natural potential of black soldier fly larvae to transform biowaste into valuable resources.

With over 15 years of practical expertise in rearing BSF and academic knowledge in waste management, entomology, and sustainable development, we empower communities, businesses, and governments to adopt a circular approach to high-value resource recovery from biowaste. Our ultimate goal is to enhance environmental, economic, and social well-being.

  • Founder and Co-Managing Director

Bram has a background in environmental science and economics and environment thanks to his master degrees in Sustainable Development (Uppsala University, Sweden) and in Environmental Science (SLU, Sweden). His hands-on experience derives from his role as project manager of a six-year research project for Eawag in Indonesia, where he was responsible for setting up and operating a pilot plant producing BSF larvae and interacting, coordinating and collaborating with all relevant project stakeholders. Since 2021, he holds the position of Chief Production Officer of the Chilean BSF company Food for Future where he signs responsible for all biological aspects of the process. .

  • Founder and Co-Managing Director

Stefan did his Master's degree at ETH Zurich (2004) in biology with a specialisation in ecology and entomology and dedicated his doctoral thesis (2006-2010) to research in the BSF technology. The focus of his years of research at Eawag is the upcycling of organic waste using BSF in low and middle-income countries. The emphasis is on the development of the technology itself, but also on the embedding of the process in the local environment and the economic viability of the technology. He is now considered one of the pioneers in the sector and has an overview of the state of current research and has good contacts in the academic scene.
