Architectural Puzzle: Paravant Ambassade by Cassina
This piece embodies Charlotte Perriand's great passion for Japan and Far Eastern traditions. She designed the paravant in 1969 for the house of the Japanese ambassador in France. The result was an imposing artist's puzzle of handcrafted, individually movable solid wood blocks. The architectural-looking paravant has an incomparably noble effect and creates an atmosphere full of lightness, movement and permanence all in one.
Charlotte Perriand
After having made a name for herself with her "Bar under the Roof" in 1927, Charlotte Perriand worked for many years with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret in their famous studio at 35 rue de Sèvres in Paris. She then gained further experience in Japan. In her creations, Perriand succeeded in combining innovative rationalism with modern, aesthetic values and thus created a new way of living.
Today, she is considered one of the most important personalities of modern design and her furniture has become high-end collectors' items that usually fetch at least five-figure sums at auctions. Numerous exhibitions and many book publications are dedicated to her life and work.
Cassina - a traditional Italian company
Founded in 1927 by two brothers, Cassina was already doing pioneering work shortly afterwards: the close cooperation of architects and designers from different fields led to revolutionary innovations in terms of materials and design language.
In the meantime, it is impossible to imagine the world of furniture design without the traditional company and always convinces with a balanced combination of high-quality, natural materials, manual craftsmanship and advanced production methods.
