Kitchen witches are protection talismans that have been kept in houses for hundreds of years . Where and when this tradition began has been lost in time , however there has been evidence of these poppets being around during the Tudor period in the UK. In Norway the tradition is still going strong and a huge variety of witches adorn kitchens , keeping the kitchen safe from spills and burnt pots and generally bringing a little protective magic to the house .
Inspired by their history I have designed a large range of poppets , this latest beauty has a definite traditional feel .
Made from plaited jute and dressed in a hessian gown and floral tabard , this is a cottage witch . She has her Besom which is held upright as all Besoms should be , drawing earths energy from the ground and bringing protection to her home .
I include a lovely card and organza bag , so the perfect gift . House warming , handfasting , good luck etc . Size 13 cm x 9 cm
