Lady Choctaws Continue Win Streak In UWG Victory

Clinton, MIss. --- The Mississippi College Lady Choctaws defeated the Wolves of West Georgia 4-1 this Friday afternoon (October 6th) at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.

In the match, the Lady Choctaws came out of the gate hot, as they recorded 10 shots in the first 20 minutes, with two of them finding the back of the net early. In just the 6th minute, Eduarda Silva played a through ball for Margherita Giubilato to place on a roll past the keeper for her third goal of the season, making her second on the team. Fifteen minutes later, the phrase "what goes around, comes around" was on display as it was Giubilato to find an open SIlva to score her second goal in her last two matches.

The Blue and Gold continued to apply the offensive pressure as in just the 25th minute, Erin Hederman found her own space just outside the box for a shot that was too hot for the UWG keeper to handle for her team-leading fourth goal of 2023. In the first half, MC dominated the time of possession and offense, outshooting the Wolves 16-4 in the first 45 minutes. After the half, the two teams lost most of their offensive prowess as the defense held strong for nearly the remainder of the match.

However, with just nine minutes to play, Avery Burleson sent a shot on target that deflected off a West Georgia player perfectly into the back of the net, increasing the lead to 4-0. The Wolves avoided the shutout, though, as Katherine Hagans scored from the left side of the box in the 85th minute to make the final score 4-1.

The Lady Choctaws (5-2-1) outshot the Wolves 24-8 in the match, and was able to stay clean in the penalty column as only two UWG players were carded. With the victory, MC, who are receiving votes in the latest Division II polls, increases their win streak to three matches. Their next match will be another homestand against Valdosta State this Sunday, October 8th in Clinton.
