In Nomine is a modern roleplaying game in which the players take the part of celestial beings - angels and demons - as they struggle for control of humanity and themselves. The celestials, powerful though they may be, are merely pawns in a much larger game being played by their Superiors, the Archangels and Demon Princes. Based on the best-selling French RPG by the wonderfully diabolical Croc!
Biblical allegory in role-playing game form. If you don't fear eventually burning in hell this game might be for you. The story pieces are well conceived but the mechanics of the system are often at odds with one another, and wildly inconsistent. Expect to have a list of house rules, depending on the type of game you're planning.
This is not a roleplaying game book. This is an exciting attempt to reconcile Christian mythologies, postmodern angst, and the conflicting human desires to accept and abolish mystery. "In Nomine" is a fun game. But it's also the best socio-religious litmus test that never really took off.
The concept is fascinating; the system is interestingly quirky; but the organization of this book is so horrid that it made me knock two stars off my rating.
