How to get to Zandvoort from Amsterdam?

To get to Zandvoort from Amsterdam, it couldn’t be easier. You only have to take one train from Amsterdam Centraal station to Zandvoort aan Zee station. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes and trains run frequently throughout the day. Once you arrive at Zandvoort aan Zee station, it’s just a short walk to the beach and the town center. The Netherlands have one of the best train networks I’ve tested throughout my years of travelling. From what I’ve experienced, the trains are always on time, are very clean and take you from point A to point B very easily.

What to do in Zandvoort?

Just RELAX! While Zandvoort is famous for its motorsport circuit, Circuit Park Zandvoort, which hosts several car and motorcycle races throughout the year, that is not why we chose this destination. One of the main attractions in Zandvoort is the beach, which stretches for miles along the coast. Whether you want to sunbathe, swim, or try your hand at one of the many water sports available, you’ll find plenty to keep you busy here. We went to a nearby shop called VANDENBERG Surf Shop, where we bought a traction kite to enjoy at the beach. We had so much fun with it and it was a great conversation starter with other beachgoers.

As the town is very small, you can pretty much walk everywhere. The streets of Zandvoort are a mix of narrow, cobbled streets lined with charming Dutch buildings and wider, modern avenues with shops and cafes. The town center is compact and easily walkable, with a variety of boutiques, restaurants, and bars.

Zandvoort has a lively dining scene, with a range of restaurants and cafes serving up local and international cuisine. Whether you’re in the mood for a light lunch or a hearty dinner, you’ll find plenty of options to choose from. Be sure to try some of the local seafood, which is fresh and delicious.

Where to stay in Zandvoort?

If you plan on staying overnight in Zandvoort, there is a variety of accommodation options to suit different budgets and preferences. For those looking for a beachfront experience, there are several hotels and apartments located right on the sand, offering stunning views and easy access to the water. If you prefer a more secluded and peaceful setting, there are also a number of bed and breakfasts and holiday homes nestled in the dunes. We opted for a cute house in a beautiful residential neighbourhood on Airbnb, that was 5-10 minutes away from the train station and the beach.

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing day at the beach or an adventure-filled excursion, a day trip to Zandvoort from Amsterdam is well worth it. With its scenic beauty, rich history, and diverse array of activities, this charming Dutch coastal town is sure to delight and inspire.
