Temperate rainforest velvet worm (Metaperipatus cf inae)
There are at least four species of velvet worms (onychophora) in the temperate rainforests of Chile. I'm happy (beyond words) to have met at least one of them. This is Metaperipatus cf inae, Los Rios, Chile.
''Metaperipatus'' is a genus of velvet worms in the family Peripatopsidae that contains the species ''Metaperipatus inae''. The type locality is in central Chile. A second species assigned to this genus, ''Metaperipatus blainvillei'', is considered a ''nomen dubium'' by Oliveira et al., 2012.
