#AntifraudNews Law enforcement agencies from 19 countries conducted a joint operation to dismantle the LabHost platform, which provided #phishing services. The operation resulted in the detention of 37 suspects, including the site’s administrators, and the shutdown of the publicly accessible platform. Coordinated by Europol and supported by local law enforcement, the investigation revealed that LabHost offered illegal phishing services via a monthly subscription of around $249. The service provided criminals with tools and a wide range of targets for launching attacks. ❗ As a result of the investigation, approximately 40,000 phishing domains associated with LabHost were discovered. UK police identified around 70,000 British victims of phishing attacks hosted on LabHost. Globally, the platform was involved in the theft of 480,000 card numbers, 64,000 PIN codes, and over a million passwords. This is very disturbing news indeed. Cybercriminals now operate on a whole new level, conducting fraudulent activity as organized business. We thank international law enforcement agencies for disrupting such an enormous criminal network. However, the scale of this operation underscores the need for proactive measures. Charges are billed by other carriers in the routing flow to end customers. 🔸Threshold-based rules are ineffective in detecting short stopping when fraudsters hijack just a small portion of traffic. 🔹Test Call Generators (TCGs) are also mainly ineffective. 📲 AI’s ability to imitate human voices has become a major concern for security professionals. It’s easy for fraudsters to find examples of customer voices on social media, create deepfakes with them, and target contact centers. A recent CX Today article highlights the issue of deepfaked voices. Pindrop, an audio monitoring expert, outlines 4 main fraudster behavior patterns and suggests ways to combat them.
