This week is #PublicServiceRecognitionWeek, and we’d like to recognize all our public servants that work to keep the wheels of America turning. From the staffers on Capitol Hill that we work with every day to advocate for servicemembers and their families, to AmeriCorps servicemembers, With Honor Action thanks you for your hardwork and dedication to this great country. A report from the National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service in March 2020 found that only 23.2% of Americans participate in some form of volunteerism. To address this distressing rate, With Honor Action worked with Senator Jack Reed and Office of U.S. Senator Todd Young to introduce the Unity Through Service Act. This bill would establish an Interagency Council on Service that would coordinate and lead initiatives that extend across military, national, and public service. This Council would convene representatives from 16 federal agencies to evaluate and develop a national strategy to address the shortage of those in service. Expanding voluntary national service is a rare public policy issue that has widespread support across party lines, and is vital for the advancement of America.

Throughout #MilitaryAppreciationMonth, we will highlight different pieces of legislation that we’ve helped pass to support our servicemembers and veterans, starting today with the Reserve Component Parental Leave Parity Act. Led by For Country Caucus Members Rep. Jeff Jackson and Rep. Zach Nunn, this bill will ensure National Guard & Reserve personnel receive the same parental leave as their active duty counterparts because all parents should be able to spend time with their newborns at such an important time in their lives: https://lnkd.in/effFV297

With Honor Action applauds Congress for passing crucial supplemental legislation to support our national security. Ukraine, Taiwan, and Israel are currently facing threats that could offset the balance of democracy in the world, and we can’t just sit idly by. Last week, the House passed four different supplemental security funding bills to curb these threats, which were passed by the Senate earlier this week. We’d like to thank Congressman Mike Gallagher for his years of service to this great nation. From the Marine Corps to the halls of Congress, Mike Gallagher has been a force for positive change whose leadership will be missed here in Washington. We wish you luck in your next adventure, Sir.

Contrary to popular belief, bipartisanship is alive and well. Last week, Members of the Military Quality of Life Panel came together to advocate for the American servicemember. They released their legislative recommendations for the FY25 #NDAA, including a 15% pay increase for junior enlisted troops. For Country Caucus Members Rep. Don Bacon, Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, Rep. Morgan Luttrell, and Rep. @Don Davis delivered remarks. Two Democrats and two Republicans, united by their military service and working together to care for the American servicemember.

Our team was on the ground for the Military Quality of Life Panel’s press conference, where co-chairs and For Country Caucus Members Rep. Don Bacon and Rep. Chrissy Houlahan delivered the Panel’s legislative recommendations for the FY25 #NDAA. Among their priorities, they announced ideas to increase pay and compensation; improve child care and housing; better access to health care; and spouse support programs. We’re proud to work alongside the Military Quality of Life Panel as they work to care for American servicemembers.

April is the #MonthoftheMilitaryChild. With Honor Action has worked since our founding in 2017 to advocate for military families and make sure they are taken care of. Read more about key pieces of legislation that we’ve endorsed to help servicemembers and their families below: The Reserve Component Parental Leave Parity Act, led by Rep. Zach Nunn and Rep. Jeff Jackson, ensured that servicemembers in the National Guard and Reserve components are entitled to the same parental leave as their active duty counterparts. The Military Spouse Employment Act, led by Rep. Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, gave federal agencies clear authority to hire #milspouses for remote positions, allowing them to live anywhere with their servicemember and still pursue their own careers.

Recently Representative Mikie Sherrill, Vice Chair of the For Country Caucus, spoke at our reception with the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, Ukrainian Warfighters, and other Members of the For Country Caucus about the need for assistance in Ukraine. Time is of the essence. Congress must act. Hear and share her remarks from the evening: https://lnkd.in/eTux4VRn

For Country Caucus Members Representative Zach Nunn and Representative Don Davis speaking at our Reception with the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, Ukrainian Warfighters, and For Country Caucus Members of Congress. They’re on opposite sides of the political aisle, but they recently returned from visiting Ukraine and know that in war, time is of the essence. Congress must pass aid for Ukraine now. https://lnkd.in/eCNcp_Fs
