I became a CEO by the age of 35.
And it was all because of an internship I did in 2008 😅
When I was 22 years old, I interned for the Beach Break Live team under the watchful eye of Celia and Ian.
In just 8 days, they had to move an entire festival from a coastal location to a zoo because of a bunch of bats (that’s a whole other story 😂).
And despite the craziness, every single day, I would hound Celia and Ian with questions:
👉 What was it like pitching on Dragons Den?
👉 Where did the idea for a student festival come from?
👉 How did you sell 20,000 tickets to Beach Break Live?
Even though it was a stressful moment, they took the time to answer my questions at the end of each day in a pub car park (our HQ for the week).
Internships aren’t just a space-filler for your CV.
✅ Ask questions.
✅ Network like crazy.
✅ Get your hands dirty.
You never know; it might help you become CEO 👀
P.S. Dad shirt pic is back out….

A huge welcome to our new League Associate interns, Liam and Phoebe Bucci. Welcome to the JAM team!
While the arrival of new talent can feel like a fresh autumn breeze for your team, it is important to remember this exhilarating launch can also be quite intimidating for your new teammates. 🍂🚀
Interns want to make a splash without feeling like a fish out of water. It's our job as veterans to guide them through these uncharted waters.
While we teach them the basics, be sure to also remember to provide emotional support too. It will likely take more than a welcome lunch to help them feel truly part of your team.
Check out these 3 playful ways to enhance your intern onboarding:
😄 First-day FUN: Make their first day unforgettable! Welcome them with their favorite song, a high-five tunnel, and some goofy questions. It'll help them feel at ease and connected right away.
🎵 Provide options for PLAY: Sign up a company sports team, start an office book club, or have lunchtime music rehearsals. Encouraging interns to playfully connect with their new colleagues , fosters friendships and teamwork.
🕶️ Gift a company kit: Give some company swag, like a hoodie, a hat and perhaps a gift certificate for the local sandwich shop on their first day. This will have them feeling like they fit in on the team from day one.
Have fun welcoming your new #interns onto your team. Playfulness creates a safe space to learn, grow, and become confident future leaders.

Do something different – and win!
We had the opportunity in #EverydayBankingCorporateTribe to do something different and get new eyes to our collaboration and squad wellbeing - and grabbed it. We made an internship agreement with Caroline Victoria Riis who studies #philosophy . This is not a usual #internship for an IT department like ours, but we wanted her to engage with squads and help us to focus more on our personal relationship, collaboration and trust.
Caroline was assigned to three squads primarily located from Brabrand office, so she within her limited three Months internship had a change to get to know the people and their team dynamics best.
In close collaboration with the Product Owners she explored protreptic interviews with individual squad members plus facilitated a full day team event doing a Socratic dialogue group session in one of the squads.
Despite only having three Months for the internship both Caroline and we got a lot out of the experience. Caroline had to adapt to the IT jargon, learning that “everything must be done for a reason”, deadlines and lots of meetings. But she was welcomed by everyone and that made it possible for her to get to know and understand the employees, plus we gave her full responsibility to try out different things. All this made the internship great value for her.
We on the other hand got a new pair of eyes on us and our internal collaboration. Caroline had the ability to see things we maybe are not aware of. I.e., how little we engage with our colleagues on other things than work related stuff (and how much we can gain trust-wise). Additionally, she appoints that we gain more – when we spend more time on our mental well-being.
This has been an enriching experience for us, that show cases that we can learn more from a dedicated specialist on humans.
Caroline’s perspectives have opened our eyes on how much we can improve our collaboration and I will encourage everyone to seek inspiration from outsiders who can open your horizon.
Feel free to reach out to me or Caroline directly to hear more.
