This week Caroline Fuchsloch, CFA celebrated her birthday and we got a chance to catchup with her at the Skybound Capital Group #capetown office
What is the best part of your day?
Definitely the morning. A 5am exercise session to energise the body and get my mind in the right head space to tackle to the day. Following that, setting my priorities for the day ahead with a morning matcha and getting stuck in.
What’s one trend that excites you right now?
I wouldn’t call it a trend exactly, but I’m very excited about the increasing power of women in the workplace and the collective movements challenging the status quo and challenging women never to settle. To move society forward, we need to continue to empower women. The global call for unity, inclusion and connection can only move us in the right direction.
What is a habit of yours that makes you more productive?
I play a lot of classical music while I work to silence out the background noise and reach an optimal state of focus to tackle my task list in order of importance.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Ask all the questions you have and learn as much as you can from the experiences and wisdom of those who have been around longer than you have. Listen and learn.
What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?
Red Notice, by Bill Browder. It reads like fiction, but it’s a true story which contains lessons about investing and business. The book teaches fascinating history, inspires you to be a better person and makes you appreciate the life you have. For some background, Bill Browder is the founder and CEO of Hermitage Capital Management which was the investment adviser to the largest foreign investment fund in Russia until 2005, when he was denied entry to the country after being declared a threat to national security as a result of his battle against corruption. This book will certainly teach you not to be afraid to choose your own path.
