New job! This month I started in the Research & Development department of Sto SE & Co. KGaA, where I will be focusing on 'System Design'. In my new role, I will aim to develop sustainable, innovative solutions for future facades. Let me know if you want to discuss innovation within the facade industry!

Very happy to share that last week, I successfully defended my PhD thesis at ETH Zurich titled 'Robotically 3D Printed Formwork for Concrete Structures'! This concludes 5.5 years of research into innovative methods of building with concrete. It was a fun, interesting, and sometimes challenging journey, and I'm grateful for the opportunities and freedom I had during this time! Presenting my work to the committee, my colleagues, collaborators, friends, and family felt like a worthy conclusion to my time at ETH. I want to thank my doctoral committee: Prof. Fabio Gramazio, Prof. Matthias Kohler Prof. Ena Lloret-Fritschi and Prof. Andrew Kudless for their support during the research! Additionally, all of my colleagues from Gramazio Kohler Research, as well as from kfmResearch – Chair of Structural Engineering – Concrete Structures and Bridge Design, ETH Zurich, Physical Chemistry of Building Materials, and the Chair of Compounding and Extrusion. It has been great fun collaborating with all of you over the years and I'm proud of the many projects we realised together! Our article on the design, engineering, fabrication, and assembly of the Eggshell Pavilion has just been published online in Construction Robotics! The paper describes how we used robotically 3D printed formwork to produce a concrete pavilion consisting of column and floor slab elements. To cast the columns using 3D printed formwork, we used 'Digital casting systems', a method for the digitally controlled casting of fast-hardening concrete. For the floor slab elements, conventional casting of concrete was used. Very glad to share our project 'Eggshell Pavilion', which demonstrates the possibilities of robotically 3D printed formwork and digital casting. After having worked on the Eggshell research project for the last five years it is a real pleasure to see it come together like this! Also, it was fun working with the students of the MAS ETH DFAB on this project. Thanks to everyone involved, students, tutors, and collaborators!
