Dr. Katharina Bergmann’s Post

In November 1941, 1.000 Munich Citizen, persecuted for being Jewish, were deported from their home town and shot to death in Kaunas (Kowno), Lithuania. Among them were Mina Blechner, Bernhard and Magdalena Goldschmidt, and Leopold and Sabine Schwager. Almost to the day 80 years later, my book is telling their stories. Stories of failed emigration attempts, of separation from their sons and daughters, of loneliness and of dignity. But the book also tells stories of their family members that emigrated - stories of pressure, of decisiveness, braveness and optimism. I could not be more proud and happy today to be able to tell these stories. Dear Blechner, Cahnman, Goldschmidt and Schwager families - it has been an honor to work with you. Thank you for your support and trust - Dianne Schwager, Sam Cahnman, Anthony Blechner, Stefan Hose

Congratulations on this important achievement - very impressed by your perseverance and dedication to complete the book and tell these stories: remembrance is the first step towards not repeating history!
